Opponent Preview: OSU Looks To Make It Four-straight With Texas Tech in Town
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State (14-9 overall, 5-5 Big 12) looks to win its fourth-straight game Wednesday evening as the Pokes play host to Texas Tech (12-11 overall, 1-9 Big 12).
The Cowboys are coming off an impressive 79-73 win over No. 15 TCU this past Saturday, a game in which they won without starting point guard Avery Anderson III. As for the Red Raiders, they lost to No. 11 Baylor, 89-62, in Waco.
While they don’t have a stellar record, the Red Raiders are still a dangerous team to face. Prior to the loss to Baylor, Tech pulled off an improbable 80-77 overtime comeback against No. 13 Iowa State for their first conference win of the season. They overcame a 23-point deficit to force the overtime and snap the eight-game losing streak.
Freshman guard Pop Isaacs leads Tech in conference play with 13.9 points a game on 32% shooting from the field and 33% from 3-point range. Two-time transfer guard De’Vion Harmon is next on the stat sheet with 13.4 points a game on an impressive 40% from the field.
They have three more scores in double-figures, including super-senior forward, Kevin Obanor, who’s averaging 13.1 points a game in conference play. He’s also the second in rebounds with 6.5 per game. Both Jaylon Tyson and Fardaws Aimaq are both averaging 10.2 and 10.0 points a game respectively, with Tyson leading in rebounds with 7.7 per game.
As a team in conference play, Tech’s averaging 65.1 points per game on 40% shooting from the field, while shooting 28% from 3-point range and 67% from the free throw line. They’re also bringing down 33.2 boards per game.
Their opponents, however, are averaging 75.7 points per game on nearly 46% shooting from the field and 35% from the 3-point line. Opponents are outrebounding Tech by nearly four a game, bringing down 36.8 boards.
