Still Hope, but Cowboy Hoops Moving in Wrong Direction

STILLWATER – The last week has been rough for Oklahoma State as the Cowboys have now lost three-straight games, the most recent being an 85-67 loss to West Virginia on the road Monday night. They lost 100-75 to TCU on Saturday and 87-76 to Kansas last Tuesday.

Joe Lunardi still projects the Pokes into the NCAA tournament with his latest Bracketology as a No. 11 seed. One of the last four byes, Lunardi has the Pokes face No. 6 Duke in Greensboro on the East side of the bracket. However, the Pokes are headed in the wrong direction with the three-straight losses.

They check in at No. 42 in the NCAA NET rankings and No. 39 in the KenPom.

One of the better defensive teams in the conference this season, the Cowboys have given up 272 points in the last three games. While losses to Kansas and TCU aren’t bad by any means, the points allowed, plus a loss to a bad West Virginia certainly plays into the slide down the projections.

One of eight teams still being projected into the Big Dance, the Cowboys still have three games remaining on the schedule to get that all-important eighth win. Nine would firmly cement the Pokes into March.

Two of the games are at home in GIA, starting with No. 14 Kansas State this coming Saturday. The Wildcats are still a good basketball team, but the Cowboys played them to single digits up in Manhattan back in January and playing at home is one of the best ways to end a losing streak.

They’ll have a quick turnaround to face No. 9 Baylor on Monday evening, certainly a revenge game for the Pokes, then will travel to Lubbock to face the red-hot Red Raiders, who have won three-straight and moved into NCAA tournament discussion.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd rather win the NIT than get embarrassed in round 1 of the NCAA by <fill in the blank of whoever we'd play in round 1 because we would and we all know it>
