STILLWATER – We’re a week in spring football here in Stillwater for Oklahoma State, yet Mike Gundy and Co. are now a handful of months into trying to piece together the 2024 recruiting class.

On Thursday, one of the top safeties in the country, Damani Maxson, took to Twitter and announced his “final 7” group of schools, which included the Cowboys.

Maxson, a 6-0, 180-pound safety out of Clear Lake HS in Houston, TX, checks in as the No. 35 overall safety and the No. 88 overall prospect out of the state of Texas in the 2024 class, according to On3. The Cowboys were one of the first teams to offer Maxson as they extended an offer early March 2022.

This past season as a junior, Maxson recorded 67 total tackles, including nine tackles for loss and one sack, five forced fumbles and one recovery, as well as two pass break ups. That comes on the heels of a solid sophomore season in which he recorded 30 total tackles, four pass break ups and one pick six.

The Cowboys currently hold four commitments in the 2024 class, an even split of two offensive and two defensive players: Longview (TX) HS CB Willie Nelson, Choctaw (OK) HS DE Will Smith, OKC (OK) Southeast HS RB Rodney Fields and Stillwater (OK) HS TE Josh Ford.
