Wake Forest Defensive Back Transfers To Oklahoma State

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State just added some depth in the secondary on Friday afternoon as Wake Forest defensive back Trey Rucker announced on Twitter that he will transfer to Oklahoma State.

Pokes Report has learned Rucker is already enrolled at Oklahoma State and is on campus, but he has not joined the offseason program, although that should happen soon. Rucker is also not currently on scholarship, but it is confirmed that he has a place in the program.

Rucker, who was in the class of 2019, spent two seasons with the Deacons before entering the transfer portal in early January.

Due to a foot injury, Rucker only played in five games this season, but he did manage to make 19 tackles and bring in an interception. As a true freshman though, he made nine starts while appearing in all 13 games. He made 65 stops, good for fourth best for the Deacons. He also had an interception.

He is listed at an impressive 6’1 195 pounds. In high school at Flint Hill School in Oakton, VA and as a Deacon, Rucker played safety, but it is unclear whether he will play safety or cornerback for the Cowboys. Out of high school, Rucker was tabbed as a three-star prospect held 10 offers, seven of which were Power 5, including Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, Purdue and Virginia.

Due to COVID-19, Rucker did not lose any eligibility, so it appears he will have three-plus years of eligibility when he joins the Cowboys’ program.

The Cowboys were lucky to avoid too much attrition following the end of the 2020 season as safeties Kolby Harvell-Peel and Tre Sterling and corner Christian Holmes all announced they would be returning for the 2021 season. The Cowboys did, however, lose corner Rodarius Williams as he was a redshirt senior.

I was surprised to see he transferred as a walk-on. I think he's a good addition to the roster, but still interesting he'd show up without a scholarship.

scholarships are unlimited... certainly they are only waiting to see how Holder comes up with the bucks.
