Spring Football Observations After Three Weeks

STILLWATER – Head coach Mike Gundy said it the other day: “It is tough being a head coach in spring football because you want to see both sides of the ball succeed and most days that is impossible.”

Gundy watches a drill during individual period in practice.

Gundy is right, although in my history of covering football at various levels, I’ve noticed most offensive-based coaches are happier if the defense is playing the best.

Thanks, Robert - great update. I'm really enthused, looking forward to fall!

OL has been our biggest issue year after year. Anyone else find it a bit scary our best option at OLT per RA might be a true freshman with little time to work with Glass, learn our schemes and be responsible/able to protect our qb as an 18/19 year old going up against 22 year old defenders?

He didn't say that in the article rather Endean is looking great for a freshman and most likely second string.

No mention of the transfer from Texas State, Dalton Cooper. How is he looking?

I'm more concerned that Springfield is looking like one of our top couple linemen.

He has been out for about a week now with a plantar fasciitis issue in one of his feet, it is like bone spurs! He should be back probably this Wednesday!

that seems like an odd statement to make, considering the folks that are trained to evaluate players don't seem to agree with you. Gundy and Dickey apparently like him, because he continues to show up in the starting lineup.

Pro Football Focus seems to think he did okay... not sure why you're so down on him...

This is from a DOK article...

It's hard to envision any individual position already locked up entering spring. Brooks, who transferred from Vanderbilt last year, impressed at guard when he got the chance down the stretch, so he's the favorite there. Joe Michalski showed improvement at center when Wilson was out.

A former walk-on, Jake Springfield has played over 2,000 snaps in his career, and according to PFF, he was the top graded offensive lineman last year among returners.

the kid is out there busting his butt and deserves his chance to live his dream, preferably without the so-called fans constantly snarking him mostly out of ignorance
