Oklahoma State Offers Off the Radar O-Line Candidate
STILLWATER – Brett Carroll went to Cedar Falls, Iowa in late March to compete in the USA Wrestling Free Styke Championships and in his age class finished third. Not bad, and I’m sure that Oklahoma State head coach John Smith and his wrestling staff saw Carroll, who is a folk style wrestling All-American from Olathe East. However, it was not Smith that pointed him the direction of Oklahoma State offensive line coach Charlie Dickey. The Oklahoma State recruiting staff found Carroll from the program that is not as successful in the rabid football Olathe-area outside Kansas City.
Carroll had offers from Colorado State (FBS) and South Dakota (FCS) as his only Division I offers when Dickey went and watched Carroll in person and agreed that the 6-5 lineman that plays closer to 300 in football and then drops weight to wrestle at 285-pounds is a real deal prospect in football. Oklahoma State offered and Carroll announced it on his social media on Twitter.
Carroll has shown up in camps and in video in his play for Olathe East as a way better than average offensive lineman. He is capable of playing inside at a center or guard position, but alos is capable as a tackle. he has arms long enough and the good feet, movement, and leverage picked up in wrestling lends itself for him to only get better.
Keep an eye on Carroll, because with the offer from Oklahoma State that many schools track, he will likely pick up a lot more attention.
