Oklahoma's Top Offensive Lineman Includes Cowboys In Top 5
The Oklahoma State offenisve line recruiting has been very strong under Charlie Dickey and that remains true early Monday morning.
6’6 285 pound Edmond, Oklahoma, based 4 star offensive tackle Jacob Sexton has released his highly anticipated final five, and he has included the Cowboys.
I spoke with Sexton last night in anticipation of his final five release and he confirmed that the Cowboys would “100%” be in the list. “I really enjoy the staff and the location,” he said in a quick reasoning of the Cowboys making the cut. “I’ve had fun with recruiting but I am definitely ready to somewhat settle it down.”
Sexton who holds 21 offers has dwindled his list down to the Cowboys, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Texas
Sexton is a three sport athlete, excelling in the three sports you would imagine he would: Football, Wrestling, and track and field, more specifically shot and discus.
Out of his top five, Oklahoma State was the earliest to offer, all the way back in October of 2019. Oklahoma would follow suit three months later in mid January of 2020. The majority of the rest of his offers came in the summer months of 2020.
Elite offensive lineman are not exactly something you can find on any street corner while recruiting. Out of just about every position, their current developement is the most important in terms of projecting where they can be. Being 6’6 and nearly 300 pounds with athleticism as a highschool junior is not something you see everyday either.
Most recruiters of offensive lineman have to go out and find the right kinds of lineman that can not only be big but be agile and athletic. A majority of these types can be tough to find. And then there are a select few that you can not miss when you see them. This is what describes Jacob Sexton.
Many in the know of Sexton’s recruitment have expressed beliefs he is a lean to OU but the fact that he has not made a decision to this point is a positive sign he is open in his recruitment from the five remaining schools. Many recruits have recently said they want to visit schools before making a decsion but this is not a factor for Sexton as he has visited several schools in his final list. In fact, he has visited both Stillwater and Norman several times each for games and camps.
There is currently no concrete timeline for his commitment but with his words “ready to somewhat settle it down”, I would bet that he is fairly close to shutting his recruitment down. An educated guess of mine would be that he commits some time this summer.
