STILLWATER – Oklshoma State coaches have completed their second full week on the road during the May evaluation period and Oklahoma State co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Joe Bob Clements was down in Texas stopping by Melissa High School to see Gunnar Wilson. Clements must have liked what he saw because the Cowboys became the first Power Five school to go aall in with an offer for Wilson, who was sitting on 11 scholarship offers.

Wilson (6-2, 210) earned Texas Sportswriters Association All-State  honors as an honorable mention tight end. Wilson was first-team All-District 7-5A-II as a linebacker and also a tight end. Wilson helped Melissa to an 11-3 finish before Dallas South Oak Cliff, the eventual 5A State Champion eliminated them in the regional final 30-16.

Wilson only played five games of defense in the 2022 season.

He finished with 46 receptions for 452-yards and six touchdowns as a tight end/fullback type utility player on offense. He has good hands as he made some tough catches we saw on video. He is also a devastating blocker that several times just crushed defenders and put them on the ground. On defense he had 42 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and three passes defended. He only played five games on defense last season and that was because of injury.

The Cardinals lined Wilson up everywhere from a seven technique outside on the defensive line to inside and outside linebacker and also at strong safety. He looked comfortable in all three levels on defense.

Melissa is located just northeast of the talent-rich Frisco, Plano, Prosper, and Little Elm school districts. Obviously, Melissa is pretty good too.

His previous offers included Bowling Green, Toledo, Army, Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, UTSA, Texas State, Sam Houston State, and Grambling.

This is a typical Oklahoma State move and now watch as the Power Five offers will come flowing for Wilson.
