Graduation Crowd Sees New Work Nearing Finish on North Side of Boone Pickens Stadium
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State University staged graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 13 and the graduates, administration, friends, and family strolled into and through Boone Pickens Stadium on the south side. That gave them an excellent view of where the $41 million Boone Pickens Stadium refortification project stands. A few weeks ago there were wood platforms covering the north side of the turf on the floor of the stadium protecting the recent new Field Turf surface as a heavy crane was on the field. Just a few days before graduation activity picked up the steel work and concrete was completed leaving only the new seating to be applied in order to finish the project.
That project also included lining up the tunnels or portal entrances from below the stadium into the seating area. Currently, the Oklahoma State fans with season ticket locations in the worked on areas are going through a re-seating process. Some seats have moved and a few have been eliminated as the whole area is being reorganized with larger seats per person to acommodate the fact people and their backsides have become bigger over the years.
The most important part of this is that the steel supporting that area of the stadium, the oldest of the facility that is actually 103-years old. No portion of the stadium is actually that old, but the area worked on since last season and the area of the south side that will be redone and fortified after this upcoming season were and are the oldest portions of the stadium. The upper level on each side where the suites and club levels top each side and the entire west end zone are the newest areas of the stadium.
