Cowboys No. 24 in Updated Coaches Poll, First Team Out of AP Top 25
STILLWATER – While they’re not quite in the AP’s top 25 yet, Oklahoma State basketball climbed in the latest coaches poll and are ranked for the first time this season as they check in at No. 24 in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll.
They are the first team outside the rankings at No. 26. with 111 points compared to 117 giving to No. 25 Drake. Also, to put some things into perspective name and brand-wise, Kansas has won only one out of its last five games, a 59-51 squeaker of a game against TCU, and is still ranked No. 23 in the country.
However, This marks the first appearance for the Pokes the Coaches Poll this season.
Also, when it comes the NCAA’s power rankings, the Cowboys are sitting at an impressive No. 21.
The Cowboys are fresh off an impressive 81-77 win over Arkansas this past weekend in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. It was the first game back in nearly weeks for freshman sensation Cade Cunningham and while he struggled to find his footing in the first half, he rose up and dominated in the second finishing with 21 points, including the game-winning jumper with less than 10-seconds left on the clock.
What makes the win over the Razorbacks that much more impressive, other than the obvious reasons of overcoming turnovers and great performances from multiple Cowboys, is Arkansas checked in at No. 28 in the NCAA N.E.T. rankings. So it was a huge resume booster for the Cowboys.
Mike Boynton and Co. have a really great opportunity to put another tick in the win column this coming Wednesday as they’re traveling to Fort Worth for the second match-up against TCU. They’ll also have a chance to make a lot of noise this coming Saturday as they play host to No. 6 Texas.
Should the Cowboy take care of business against TCU and then find a way to knock of the hard-charging Longhorns, there’s no question they’ll see a jump up into the top 25.
