Former Oklahoma State Receiver James Washington to Sign With New Orleans Saints

Former Oklahoma State receiver James Washington is on the move again in the NFL. It was reported on Monday that Washington is signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints following a workout with the team over the weekend.

Washington, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2018 draft, spent this past season with the Dallas Cowboys. However, he played in just two games and did not record any stats after suffering a foot injury early into training camp, which sidelined him for most of the year.

His second year in the league was his best season to date as he hauled in 44 passes for 735 yards and three touchdowns. He did, however, record five touchdowns during the 2020 season. During his four years with the Steelers, Washington recorded 114 catches for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns.

"Obviously, he was injured last year, but there were some things that we saw previously to that in terms of just speed down the field, kind of a guy that can get vertical into the defense," New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen said on Monday.

This could be a very good fit for Washington as the Saints are in need of a talented, veteran receiver to go with new quarterback Derek Carr.
