STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team has advanced to the Women’s College World Series for the fourth-straight season as they beat the Oregon Ducks 9-0 in game two of the NCAA Stillwater Super Regional.

With the win, the Cowgirls move to 46-14 on the season.

The Cowgirls outscored opponents 37-3 in the five games of the Regional and Super Regional, while also retiring 36-straight hitters between games one and two.

Redshirt senior pitcher Kelly Maxwell got the start in the circle and had a solid game as she retired 19-straight batters going into the bottom of the seventh inning with a perfect game on the line before giving up a one-out single up the middle. She’d finish the game throwing a complete seven innings, giving up just two hits, no runs or walks with eight strikeouts for her 16th win of the season.

Kiley Naomi went 4-for-4 from the plate, while scoring four RBIs with two doubles and a home runs.

The Cowgirls, playing as the visiting team in game two, struck first in the top half of the first inning as Kiley Naomi scored Rachel Becker from third with a one-out single. Becker led the game off with a double to left field.

The fifth inning was really good for the Pokes as they plated six runs with one out, a fielder’s choice for Katie Lott, scoring Haidyn Sokoloski from third, who was pinch running for Morgyn Wynne. Becker recorded a two RBI single, scoring both Megan Bloodworth and Tallen Edwards. Chyenne Factor was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Enter Kiley Naomi. Naomi rocked the fifth pitch out of the ballpark to left field for three RBIs, putting the Cowgirls on top 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Maxwell continued her dominance through the fifth as she retired batters 13, 14 and 15, making it 32-straight batters retired, going back to the second inning of the first game.

Claire Timm, pinch hitting for Sokoloski, got her first postseason hit in the top half of the sixth inning with a leadoff single to center. Taylor Tuck advanced Timm with a single, the 10th hit of the game for the Cowgirls. A passed ball advanced Timm and Sophie Page, who was brought into pinch run for Tuck, followed by a walk for Becker, bringing Factor up with two outs and bases loaded. The Pokes were unable to put any runs across as Factor struck out, eliminating a run rule situation.

Maxwell retired the bottom of the sixth inning in order, a strikeout, a ground out and another strikeout to continue her perfect game.

The Cowgirls plated a few more insurance runs in the top half of the seventh inning, before the Ducks recorded their first hit of the game with one out in the bottom half of the seventh to break up Maxwell’s perfect game bid, which would’ve been the second of her career as she recorded one in her college debut.

Awesome stuff! It seems Gajewski has the girls peaking at precisely the right time. I think he is proving to be a very masterful head coach

Awesome job Cowgirls! The bad stretch is behind us, none of that matters now. We're in the tournament, playing great, and everybody is 0-0. Go get it.
