Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From 2024 LB Gunnar Wilson Following Official Visit
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State football is on a roll from the back-to-back official visit weekends as they land a commitment from Gunnar Wilson, a linebacker out of Melissa (TX) High School in the 2024 class.
Wilson, who was on his official visit in Stillwater last week, took to social media to make the announcement official.
Checking in at 6-3, 210 pounds, Wilson chose the Cowboys over offers from Arkansas State, Army, Louisiana Tech, North Texas and UTSA among others.
Wilson already has Oklahoma State ties as his sister is currently a student here in Stillwater. He told Pokes Report that his dad is a Texas A&M fan, and his mom is a Texas fan. Our guess is the Wilson family is going to be cheering full-time for the bright orange Pokes north of the Red River.
The Cowboys and Joe Bob Clements were the first Power Five program to offer Wilson during the May evaluation period following Clements’ trip down to Melissa to see Wilson.
Wilson had a great junior season in 2022 as he earned Texas Sportswriters Association honorable mention All-State honors as a tight end. Wilson was also tabbed first team All-District 7-5A as he helped Melissa to an 11-3 overall record before a 30-16 loss to the eventual Texas 5A state champs, Dallas South Oak Cliff.
He finished the season with 46 receptions for 452 yards and six touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball, the side in which Oklahoma State is interested in, Wilson recorded 42 total tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks, two picks, three pass breakups and one forced fumble. What’s impressive about those defensive stats is that he recorded them in just five games due to an injury.
He lined up in several spots on the defense, everything from a seven technique on the outside of the defensive line to both inside and outside linebacker, as well as a little at strong safety. The Cowboys’ defensive unit has been very successful the past handful of years due to recruiting players like Wilson.
Wilson becomes the 10th commitment in the Oklahoma State 2024 recruiting class and he evens up the numbers as he is the fifth commitment on the defensive side and the second linebacker in the class. There are five offensive pledges in the class as well.
