Chauncey Johnson Commits to Oklahoma State on Official Visit
STILLWATER – Lonoke, Ark. sits about 20 miles east of Little Rock, Ark. and is a little closer to the Mississippi border than it is to the Arkansas-Oklahoma line. When Lonoke defensive line coach Xavier Flowers drove Chauncey Johnson to the Down and Dirty Linemen Camp at Oklahoma State back on June 13 little did he know where it would lead.
Johnson had a strong camp showing that he was not only agile, but a very powerful 6-4.5 and 288-pound blocker. Johnson could have participated in the camp on defense as he plays both ways at Lonoke High School. He picked the right side of the ball. He was unbeaten in one-on-one and showed the results of picking up wrestling the past year and how it improved his footwork and his leverage.
He had offers coming to the camp from Missouri and Southeast Missouri with Arkansas State and Memphis picking up their recruitment of him. Earlier this week, Oklahoma State offered and by Thursday with his boss at his summer job being gracious enough to let him off work, he was on his way to Stillwater on an official visit.
It went well as we learned that Johnson committed to the Cowboys on Friday night after dinner. He did not even wait until his final meeting with Coach Gundy on Saturday morning.
Last season he had 17 tackles on defense and a sack. On offense he was busy blocking for the Jack Rabbits fairly balanced offense. They ran for 2006-yards averaging 5.7-yards a carry and they threw for 1,699-yards and averaged 8.45-yards a pass attempt. Lonoke finished 6-5, 4-2 in district and lost a heartbreaker 21-14 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Johnson becomes the ninth commitment for Oklahoma State in the 2024 recruiting class. He is the sixth on the offensive side of the football. He joins Caleb Hackleman from Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, Texas as the second offensive lineman in the class.
