STILLWATER – It is a new world in the Big 12, but one thing hasn’t changed. The media is still pinning the preseason favorite’s roll in football on a blueblood program. The Big 12 won’t necessarily have one of those in 2024, but the media for one last time picked either Texas or Oklahoma first in the league. Oklahoma with their losing season (6-7) in 2022 has lost the confidence of the media and it is Texas that assumed the top position in the media’s balloting.

Texas also had a conference best five players selected in the media’s preseason All-Big 12 football team that was released on June 5. Those selections included preseason defensive player of the year Jaylan Ford, receiver Xavier Worthy, tigjt end Ja’Tavion Sanders, defensive lineman Byron Murphy II, and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr.

Texas received first place votes from 41 of the 63 media that voted in the poll. The media voting were all given ballots as media enrolled and scheduled to participate in next week’s Big 12 Football Media Days.

Ari Temkin of Sirius XM Radio.

Defending Big 12 champion Kansas State was second in the voting and had 14 first place votes including mine. Oklahoma and texas Tech each received four first-place votes, TCU had three, and Oklahoma State received one. We actually know that came from Ari Temkin of Big 12 This Morning on Sirius XM Radio.

Oklahoma State which had three players (receiver Brennan Presley, linebacker Collin Oliver, and safety Kendal Daniels) selected to the preseason All-Big 12 football team was voted seventh with the one first-place vote and a total of 470 points.

All four of the new teams coming into the Big 12 this season were voted in the bottom half of the league starting with UCF at eighth. BYU was voted 11th, Houston 12th, and Cincinnati 13th

West Virginia was picked last in the preseason poll by the media.

And I will be most pleased when, at the end of the season, the 'whorns are once again middle of the pack and unable to even sniff the air of a Big 12 championship. Get hooked, 'whorns. Go Pokes!

7th place might be accurate.
Unknown QB. New defense that Gundy recently admitted could take 2 years to really get rolling. Finally, a change in offense. An offensive coordinator who has yet to show what he can do. Cannot judge the OC from last season because his play calling was severely hampered by all of the key injuries.
I like what Gundy recently said about focusing on creating a strong running game. Of course, that requires an effective offensive line which we have not seen for awhile. So many unknowns going into this season and that is why I don't think too many people are expecting anything great. Gundy always said that how the team goes will be a reflection of how good the QB play is. I think we have seen that how the team goes will be a reflection of what the O line and the QB does. We don't have a star QB, and the O line has not held up very well. Hence, my pessimism for this season.

So, the media collectively picks KU to finish 9th with a QB predicted to be the B12 POY. That makes no sense.

Personally, I don't think Daniels is anywhere close to possessing the talent to be the best QB in the league, much less have the complimentary weapons to make him Uber successful.

I agree that makes no sense. I like Daniels but I voted Will Howard my OPOY and Kansas State to win the Big 12. If Daniels is the OPOY then I promise Kansas will be higher than 9th in the standings. My DPOY was Kenny Logan Jr. He did not even make the All-Big 12 team. The OPOY is always a more accurate barometer of where his team finishes.
Honestly, I don't think it will happen but if Quinn Ewers is the All-Big 12 quarterback then I would expect Texas to at least play for the Big 12 in Arlington. Remember, when Oklahoma State played that season in the Big 12 title game Spencer Sanders was the All-Big 12 quarterback that season.

oSu at 7th doesn't take into account our cream puff schedule. While we're skating through the weakest schedule in the conference, all the other top half teams are bludgeoning themselves against each other.

In my estimation, KState is class of the Big 12 with their returning OLine and QB, with TCU right there.
oSu is in the next cluster with Baylor, Horns, OU and Tech in my view. Everyone looks good in exhibition reels, let's see them playing opponents that want to beat them.

I've graded all of Rangel's tape from last season. He made very few mistakes in face of unblocked jailbreak pass rushes from 3-4 man boxes. Don't be too surprised if he it's not Bowman trotting out, or to see him get pulled if he's as inconsistent as rumored.

Frankly, I thought the team played better when Gunnar was in, regardless of tape. The team seemed to respond better.

and I will be totally shocked and quite alarmed if Bowman does not start game 1.

I tend to feel like all the offensive changes, QB under center, etc. will set him back a bit in his development, not accelerate it.

maybe Rangel is better prepared to lead the team after 2 years in the program, but I'm actually going to have to see that to move beyond panic.
