Stillwater Native Isaac Stebens Gets Picked by Boston in Round 16
ARLINGTON, Texas – In Arlington for the Big 12 Football Media Days and wrapping up the 2023 MLB Draft, which is an event that will be held here next year in conjunction with the Texas Rangers and Globe Life Field hosting the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. Oklahoma State had five players picked prior to today’s final 10 rounds (11-20) with Juaron Watts-Brown in the third to Toronto, Nolan McLean in round three to the New York Mets, Roc Riggio in the fourth round to the New York Yankees, Marcus Brown in the fifth round to Washington, and Brian Hendry in the tenth round to the Yankees.
Today (Tuesday) the Boston Red Sox used their pick in round 16, No. 478, to take Stillwater native and Cowboys 6-0, 191-pound pitcher Isaac Stebens. Stebens played for Stillwater High School and then went to Cowley County College where he learned a new pitching style and came back to Oklahoma State a much more effective pitcher.
This season when Nolan McLean was injured, Stebens became the critical guy that really picked up McLean’s innings.
In 28 appearances he had a 4-1 record with six saves. he threw 64.1 innings and had an ERA of 2.24 with 85 strikes outs and just 24 walks. He allowed 49 hits, but only eight extra base hits and just one home run.
