Oliver and Wilson in Agreement: Oklahoma State Came Out Ahead in Portal Exchange

I've always viewed the portal as at least a break even or slight advantage at worse for Oklahoma State if our coaches and recruitment staff approaches and uses it properly. It may be even a pretty big positive opportunity! I know it's debatable but we are likely roughly in the top 20 or 30 best programs to join in the country even considering location and weather along with facilities, conferences, team success, coaches, universities, etc. And then there are still at least a hundred or more schools below our level who have some Division 1- 3 or 4 star, even NFL draft type players from year to year. Half of the schools ahead of us need little from the portal.....and if they take a few, may lose again high 3 or 4 star guys who feel dissed. OSU has a lot to offer, a lot to choose from and no reason to fear the portal IMO. We'll see in about the next 3 months how the Cowboys faired in this last portal go round. I am expecting pretty darn good......and that was even to some extent getting caught a bit off guard this year. Gundy has said that won't be the case again and I trust that's true.

that's what I said from the get-go, let's just feast off of the 5-star kids that bail on Bama, UGA and tOSU, etc.

we'd likely get more of that "caliber" of player from the portal, then we could ever attract through straight HS recruiting.

But even better to me than a 5 star transfer that hasn't played or likely hasn't even worked out and played at Bama, is a good surprise guy that has proven his play, character, etc. at a Wichita St., SMU or Wyoming and looks very much like an NFL possible.....that's to me a real catch. We may have got one or more of those at DE, LB, NG, QB, OL and/or WR this portal season.

LOL.... yeah, like you would not have taken Jalen Hurts, or Joe Burrow, or any number of 4-5 star transfers that actually did play... I think it's fairly long and decent list...

Sure I would, but those were stars looking for other blueblood teams, knowing they were likely highly appreciated and have proven their worth. I was referring to taking this DE from Tulsa who's proven himself over a 5 star from UT that's upset he's 3rd or 4th string after his freshman year......and may be so spoiled he'll never be great. We've had a couple of those guys before as "major star freshman" recruits if you recall who never worked out.

I'm with you 72... my sentiments exactly.

I was just speaking a possible approach for the fans that constantly claim that we can't get 4-5 star recruits, like that is some sort of objective.

I like what Gundy does to keep us in the upper echelon of college football.
