STILLWATER – In 18-years as the head football coach at Oklahoma State Mike Gundy has a record of 156-75. after his first three seasons, Gundy was 18-19, si in the last 15 seasons Gundy is 138-56. In the last 10 seasons Gundy is 89-43. Gundy is the all-time winningest coach at Oklahoma State and it is not even close. He has led his alma mater to 17 bowl games including five appearances in New Year’s Six bowl games.

We know Gundy rarely gets his due from the national media and sometimes not even from the locals. Smart football people realize the job Gundy has done in Stillwater.

Rhule and Gundy converse before the 2019 Bayor at OSU meeting.

One of the few coaches he has a losing record against was new Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule. When Rhule took the job at Baylor, Gundy greeted him rudely with a 59-16 win in Stillwater. Baylor and Rhule rebounded in Waco for a 35-31 win in 2018. Their last meeting before Rhule left for the NFL and the Carolina Panthers was a 45-27 win by Rhule and the Bears inside Boone Pickens Stadium.

Rhule was on Colin Cowherd’s show The Herd on Thursday and the cool thing is he was asked an open ended question about coaches that impressed him that he went up against and answered Gundy.

"I don't know him personally very well, but I always thought Mike Gundy did more with not as much as everybody else," Matt Rhule said.

"Never had, like, the four - and five-star recruiting classes, but like, he was gonna find a way to win nine, 10, 11 games every year, and every game that you went into, you know, you thought you were a step ahead of him and then bang, he was a step ahead of you,” explained Rhule.”I think he's one of the great coaches in college football that doesn't get nearly enough recognition."

If Gundy keeps coaching like he has said he will, even a few more years and Rhule build something and establishes himself at Nebraska then they could see each other again. Oklahoma State is scheduled to play the Huskers in Lincoln in 2034 and then Nebraska comes to Boone Pickens Stadium in 2035.

A lot of truth to this, but I also think Gundy is getting more 4 stars than are reflected in the national ratings. Many from programs that don't compete in a league that reveals the player's potential. But of course, Gundy should be given credit for that too as he's found a way around the Stillwater recruiting challenges. It appears to me we may have about a dozen playing on the team this year, although some may need a year or two to fully show up..
