Taylor Cornelius Signs With Edmonton in CFL
STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius is a professional football player once again. It was announced on Tuesday evening Cornelius has signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Football Team of the Canadian Football League.
Cornelius most recently played for the Tampa Bay Vipers of the XFL and threw for 858 yards on a 63% completion rate with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He also carried the ball 17 times for 114 yards and three touchdowns.
Cornelius certainly impressed someone while he played in the XFL as the new head coach for Edmonton is Jaime Elizondo, Cornelius’ former head coach while in Tampa Bay.
Corndog is also getting some support stateside as former teammate Chuba Hubbard is from Edmonton.
His lone year as a starter for the Cowboys was a solid one as he cemented himself squarely in the record books. Cornelius completed nearly 60% of his passes as a senior for 3,978 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 122 times for 406 yards and 10 touchdowns. The best game of his career came against Oklahoma as he completed 64% of his passes for 501 yards and three touchdowns.
While the CFL didn’t play in 2020, Cornelius will have his work cut out for him as starting quarterback Trevor Harris had a solid 2019 campaign. He completed 72% of his passes for 4,027 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also led the league in completions and was second in passing yards.
It’s always exciting to see a Cowboy in the professional ranks, especially as someone as fun to watch as Corndog. I certainly hope he gets a chance to make a name for himself up North.
