Quarterback Rotation/Competition Rolls into Big 12 Conference Play?

September 18, 2023

STILLWATER – If you were Oklahoma State head football coach Mike Gundy and you had decided that it was time to settle in on a quarterback, at least two, would you announce it on Monday? Would you spill the beans and let Iowa State know who they’d be facing on Saturday? Okay, I wouldn’t. I know fans want to know, but so do opponents and if one keeps the other from knowing then I’d go with it.

Agree!!!!! We need a starting quarterback. Not sure if any can be successful behind this line, but it is time to name a quarterback.

Did Rangel even get a fair shake last game? I don't think so. I agree Bowman should be the guy, but your average fan thinks differently. The loudest boos I've heard in a while were while Bowman was playing. Chants of we want Gundy were popping up everywhere.

Ditto, you can't establish any rhythm or continuity if you don't toss the ball to one guy and say it's yours now go do what it takes to win!!!

Rangel missed a day of practice and was under the weather all week. Fair chance? No, probably not. Based on practice the week before (the coach standard), probably so.

Bowman had thrown a pick on his 3rd possession, so I think most fans were expecting to see a change, when the change didn't happen that's when some yahoo's starting booing like idiots.

What a worthless article!!! Do you really think Iowa State will get any advantage if Gundy names a quarterback on Monday?? It doesn't matter which one is named, we run the same stuff every game. They already know that with Bowman's inability to move they can put more pressure on him. Gundy brings more legs but less of a passer. And Rangel has the better arm and moves okay. This is all smoke screen from Gundy and RA is trying to cover for him. This statement from South Alabama linebacker says it all. And this is not time we have heard this about OSU's offense.

South Alabama linebacker Trey Kiser said he realized early that the Jaguars would win.

"Probably say the second or third series when they couldn't even pass the 50-yard line," Kiser said. "It was ridiculous seeing our defense. The plays we saw in practice we saw tonight, and it was like slow motion when they ran them."

While I agree that not knowing is not a great advantage, it is something. No sense in naming one to make fans happy. I agree its time to pick a poison and go with it, but no sense in revealing it before the midpoint of 2nd quarter Saturday.

Sadly the USA linebacker nailed it. I get it you beat teams by being able to execute your plays not with tricks and surprises, but we need to find some plays we can actually execute and the line must find a crew that can fight and make holes and protect. Right now they're a very ineffective screen or sieve might be a better description.

At this point I'd think something drastic like getting in the I and running Ollie like crazy. That seemed to work when its been tried. It might not get us many fast starts, but it could eat clock and wear down the opposition.

Wow! Had not seen that quote. That tells everyone the level of the Pokes offensive execution.

While I would agree somewhat with what he said did the UAB kid also see Jayden Bray breaking wide open on the crossing route that should have been six points on the first series of the game??? That drop WAS MORE COSTLY IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE!!!

The simple fact that we would even have to consider hiding a starter to not tip the hat to ****ty teams is absolutely embarrassing.

We are rotating everywhere. But not at the worst position on the team. The Oline. Give some young guys a chance. Frustrating Oline play we have seen in last 2 years, the best we get from coach is, they are not ready.

Put them in and see it. Experience in Oline doesn't help if they are out played by all G5 teams we face. Change and give young pups some chance.

Well, all we have heard was about the new offense and all the good things the OL has done. Someone hit that kool aid a bit hard this time. Nothing about this team shows they will win another game. It's pathetic and a disgrace to the fans that pour their money, heart, and passion into this program. We were all sold a dream that isn't even close to being true. Same offense as last season. Dickey and Dunn should have been left in AZ after the bowl game. Coach Gundy has let the game pass him by and has 26 million reasons to not give AF and it shows.

That last quote from their linebacker is all the commentary you need to know about the ability of the Oklahoma State's coaching staff to come up with a game plan that has some intelligence and imagination. Embarrassing and amateurish.

Slice it any way you want, this team is in trouble. I can't think of a single conference team we can beat. A long and disappointing year ahead.

How many reasons does Nick Saban have to not give AF?
Kirby Smart?
Dabo Swinney?
Lincoln Riley?
Brian Kelly?

You see, people that throw out the argument do so because that's the way they think and therefore would act if they were in the same position. Highly compensated individuals are way past such shallow motivations. They are motivated by success and achievement, not money. It's money that follows success and achievement.

There's a reason why we are ranked at or near the bottom of FBS in yards per attempt. Among other issues, I think our QBs, especially Bowman are afraid of making a mistake and therefore mostly look for the "safe" completion which is usually something short or a check-down. That's not gonna change until Gundy picks a starter with the freedom to make a mistake without fear of getting pulled. JMO

You are right. Rangel's numbers are better so let's give him the start and give him a chance to get in a rhythm.

We literally beat ourselves in this game..dropped passes, penalties that killed drives after 1st downs, missed tackles and muffed punt return. That's how a better team loses. Are we really better? We'll see at the end of the season, but our mistakes were not major in the long run, but killers on Saturday night.

KB, NS,DS all have national Championships, BK is one of the best coaches in the sport and will win a NC in the next 3 years at LSU. LR is the best QB coach in the sport and one of if no the best recruiter in the sport.

Gundy has done nothing to show but 1 big XII championship (Should have been a NC birth) lighting in a bottle and 2 big bowl games in 18 years. He doesnt have relationships with players past or present. His recruiting is garbage and now Mr. big brain is trying to play QB shuffle when the talent is gone. Its idiotic and downright sad to see the program that he helped mold fall apart.

OSU got whooped in every facete of the game. Those kids didn't belong on the same field as USA.

The people we trust to tell us how the team has performed in the pre-season led us astray. We swallowed the hype that Robert and others said. We have coaches who are either lazy, or incompetent and they need to be replaced before anything will get better. How McEndoo and Dickey keep their jobs is beyond me. Dunn needs to be replaced as Coordinator. Gundy is going to have his record tarnished if he doesn't make changes.

Like Bobby Knight once said after OSU gave his Tech Raiders a beat down.... "we came to play basketball, and they came to kick our ass".

The dropped TD pass, the muffed punt reception, the holding call wherein Stribling was hurt, the interception, and, of course, no starter at QB. can we clean it up and get better? Certainly. Can we win 7 games, five more???? Maybe, but doubtful. Once upon a time the Ostate offense was feared...once upon a time. Is it on Dunn? Gundy? Personnel? All three? Honestly, a loss has never clung to me like this one.

But you said he didn't give AF because of his salary.
You know how galactically stupid that comment is?

Like I said, that's exactly the kind of thing someone would say if in their dreams they ever made big money, they would just relax and enjoy their bank account instead working to get better.

We do know one thing, you've never made big money.

2021 was a TRAUMATIC experience for him Gumby, he had to watch OSU play in the Big XII championship game, then beat Notre Dame and watch a coach and future Heisman winning QB walk out the door at UT Norman, give him a break!!! LOLOLOL

Yeah, anybody, but anybody that blames a poor performance on Gundy's (or any coach's) lack of caring because they make a lot of money is an absolute idiot. Sometimes poor performances are a result of bad ideas.. Sometimes plans are bad. Sometimes you get out coached. Sometimes the other team has better players. But poor performances in sports where the coaches are highly compensated is never because they don't care BECAUSE they make big money.

But that's alright. At least we know who has no clues.

Sometimes it's because they are to comfortable. That leads lack of preparation or "got outcoached". It's the same song and dance except this is 1000% worse. You can't get beat like you did and just be fine with with. He is, he has zero fire.
