Corrected: Tre Griffiths Has His Biggest Game of the Season and David Kabongo With Big Hit
STILLWATER – The Dallas Morning News is invaluable with keeping up with Oklahoma State commitments and prospects in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and in Texas in general. last Friday night there were two unbeaten high school teams with Oklahoma State 2024 commitments that really played well. Trophy Club Byron Nelson High School safety David Kabongo has been good all season and already has close to 40 tackles on the season and he is making big impacts as he did in the 63-26 win over Timber Creek.
Meanwhile, receiver Tre’ Griffiths at Keller has received extra attention and has been limited some, but he broke out with 10 receptions for 191-yards and two touchdowns in a 35-8 win over rival Keller Central.
Griffiths scored his first touchdown in the second quarter as quarterback Beckham Robinson hit him in stride with a 29-yard touchdown. Then in the third quarter he helped blow the game wide open with a 73-yard scoring reception.
Keller, who advanced to the quarterfinals last season in the playoffs is off to a 5-0/2-0 district start on the season. Griffiths now has 19 receptions for 351-yards and is in the top 10 in the Metroplex. He has three touchdowns and is averaing 18.8-yards per catch. The 6-3, 215-pound Griffiths is a big target with track speed.
Griffiths and Keller’s next game is Oct. 5 hosting Southlake Carroll.
Kabongo and Byron Nelson High School are also 5-0 and 2-0 in district. They have an open week ahead and will play next at Braswell on Oct. 6. Lasy Friday they ditched Timber Creek 63-26. Kabongo, an aggressive hard hitting safety helped hold Timber Creek to eight-yards rushing on 30 carries and 263-yards overall.
Kabongo had a highlight hit on Timber Creek running back A.J. Parks. He puts him down for a loss and Parks helmet flies off.
A really good week for Kabongo and for Tre’ Griffiths.
