Alan Bowman Pokes Report NIL Journal No. 9 - Ready to Play in a Black Out

Publisher’s Note: This is the ninth installment of the Pokes Report NIL Journal for the 2023 football season. Alan Bowman is now the starting quarterback for Oklahoma State and took every snap in the 34-27 loss to Iowa State. He’s had over a week to absorb the disappointment of losing at Iowa State and working to get the offense better and give it an identity after the three games of quarterback rotation.

Well, it's about 7 years now since Wickline left and we've churned thru 3(?) OL coaches and numerous linemen without a lot of consistency in our OL play. Seems like it's at an all time worse now when even lessor name teams seem to have better OL'S. So I hope we get better this year, but not holding my breath.

take a look at the OL players from Wick's last season (2013), then take a look at Connely's first OL roster in 2014...

the decline started before Wickline left, and Dickey has had more success than any of the three prior OLine coaches (Connely, Adkins, Henson)

I'm not sure what needs to be done, I certainly thought that Birmingham would be more help than he's shown so far this season.

We have a whole lot of young offensive linemen, so perhaps the answer is already on campus, since all of the current OLine will be leaving.

Hopefully that's the case, Robert wrote a story that sounded like he feels a good deal of future correction is already in place. I'm sure everyone hopes this turns back around at some point but I suspect if we had a known, total fix in the wings (even if very young/inexperienced), they'd already be helping out some. (Texas used freshman last year). So I assume we'll need some additional success in the portal even if we don't lose anyone. I wasn't sure about the point of your "compare roster" remarks. But I know Wickline was blamed for lazy recruiting efforts and leaving a fairly empty cupboard. I also heard he was disrespectful of HCMG and told his players Gundy didn't know what he was doing when it came to the OL. (Unsure what that was all about.) I do at least recall some good OL success years with Wickline, with less recruiting support staff/help around. But maybe he had gone haywire.
