Cowgirls’ Win Streak Ends In Austin
AUSTIN, Texas — Oklahoma State's women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night with a 64-53 setback against Texas inside the Erwin Events Center.
Despite getting off to a 1-of-8 start from the floor, the Cowgirls stayed within reach of the Longhorns, trailing 9-8 with four minutes left in the first. OSU took its first lead a minute and a half later on a steal and layup from junior Ja'Mee Asberry. The Cowgirls led, 13-11, through the first 10 after holding Texas scoreless over the final two-plus minutes.
The Longhorns opened the second with the first seven points of the second stanza, while the Cowgirls missed their first seven shots to trail, 18-13. UT used an 11-0 run to end the half and extend the margin to double figures at 30-17.
OSU scored was held to four points in the quarter and a 1-of-14 effort from the floor in the quarter after playing the majority of the period without senior Natasha Mack due to injury.
The Longhorns opened the second half on an 8-2 run over the first two minutes of the second half, forcing an OSU timeout with the Cowgirls trailing, 38-19. UT hit six of its first nine shots out of the gate, including all three of its 3-point attempts to extend the margin to 22. After Mack returned, OSU cut the margin to 14 with less than a minute remaining before the Longhorns would score the final five to lead, 54-33.
The Cowgirls kept battling in the fourth, using a 11-0 run to pull within 11 with two and a half minutes remaining.
Mack returned to lead the Cowgirls with 16 points and six rebounds, while Asberry added 13.
The Cowgirls will close out their two-game road swing on Saturday with a 3 p.m contest at Texas Tech.
