Tonga Adds His Pledge to the Oklahoma State 2024 Recruiting Class

STILLWATER – Semisi Tonga made it two-for-two this weekend for Oklahoma State. In fact, with the win over Kansas maybe it is three-for-three. Tonga is a 6-4, 320-pound offensive lineman for Salt Lake City West. The big, very physical player has missed some of this season with an injury, but his return coincided with the West getting on a role in region play and finishing the regular season on a six-game win streak and earning a bye in the first round of the Class 5A Utah playoffs.

Robert Allen - Pokes Report
Tonga this weekend on his visit at the oSU-Kansas game.

Tonga and his teammate Nuku Mafi were both in Stillwater this spring and the recruiting process kicked up. They both cancelled a scheduled visit to Nebraska a couple of weeks ago and made their official visit this weekend to Oklahoma State.

“My visit was good. It was good, everythign was good,” Tonga said. “No, more than that, it was great.”

Tonga then told me that he had committed, but as is our policy at Pokes Report we waited until Tonga announced it himself on social media, which he did moments ago on Twitter.

His message reads: “First and foremost, I want to thank my Heavenly Father for this great blessing and the opportunity that he has blessed me with. I want to thank my mom and dad and my family and the coaches at West High School and the coaches that recruited me and my brothers on the field for pushing me to where I need to be. In the next four-to-five years I will be committed to Oklahoma State University.”

Tonga is a very strong offensive lineman that could play tackle, but would also be good at guard or center. He had offers from the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico State, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, and Utah State.

See his senior highlights.

He is now the 15th commitment for the 2024 Oklahoma State recruiting class and brings the offensive line number along with his teammate Nuku Mafi to four with Caleb Hackleman of Pleasant Grove in Texarkana, Texas and Chauncy Johnson from Lonoke, Ark.

I like the potential of these 2 players.... but... we always sign 3-star OLinemen.

Always.

we have 13 first or 2nd year Oline players now.

I agree though, if we can keep some of these young pups around, we should be solid for a long while.

Dickey really has the pipeline stuffed...

With Caleb, Chauncey Johnson and these two and one or two more this could be a stellar O line group of recruits!!! I love the film on Caleb and Chauncey and these two also, people should go watch it!!!

Yes, but there aren't many 4 or 5 star O-Linemen available.

If you look at the 2024 composite rankings on 247 sports, there are 865 O-Linemen. Only two of those have 5 stars and only 46 have 4 stars.

If I understand the star ratings, the 4 and 5 star recruits are considered ready to play as true freshmen. Most offensive linemen need a year or two in a college strength program.

I trust Rob Glass to add a star to both of these guys.

yes, I know. I wasn't trying to comment on their rating, but instead was suggesting that we already have over 2 full classes of kids just like this already on board, a couple of whom are already on the 2-deep.

Like I said, I like their potential, but it's likely going to be a few years before we see them on the field.

their numerical ratings are higher than many that we've brought in, but they are also a year or two behind those other fresh and RSfresh kids.

We're in pretty good shape.

Signing 3 star O-Lineman is normal for most major college teams even the blue bloods. There are very few 4 and 5 stars.
