Bedlam Preview

An in-state rivalry that began in 1914, the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot of history. This is the 114th consecutive year the two teams have played each other. The Sooners have dominated the rivalry and lead with an 82-20-7 record. However, the teams are more evenly matched than they were in recent years. History says that OU should pull out the win, but there could be a different outcome based on the two teams’ performance this season.

After a loss to Kansas last week, the Sooners are vulnerable and weaknesses are exposed. For Oklahoma State, momentum has never been higher and Ollie Gordon II is the guy to watch. Will Gordon have another 200+ yard game and help the Cowboys go against the grain of history? Or, will Dillon Gabriel give another reason for his name to be in the running for the Heisman trophy? A win for the Cowboys would give coach Mike Gundy his 100th Big 12 win.

1st Quarter

OU wins the toss. Oklahoma State will receive.

Kickoff: Touchback. The Cowboys will start at their own 25.

TOUCHDOWN!!! After an almost-perfect drive from Alan Bowman and the Cowboys, Ollie Gordon runs the ball in for a Cowboy touchdown. Alex Hale makes the extra point. 7-0 Cowboys.

OU touchback. Two plays later, RB Gavin Sawchuck runs for a 64-yard touchdown to tie the game.

6 minutes into the game, Rashad Owens already has 51 yards on 5 catches.

Punt: OSU punts to the OU 2 yardline. Great punt from Hudson Kaak.

FUMBLE! LB Xavier Benson recovers a Dillon Gabriel fumble. The Cowboys have the ball on their own 43.

Fourth down conversion: Cowboys go for it on 4th and 3; end up on the OU 24 to set themselves up to score.

2nd Quarter

TOUCHDOWN!!!! QB Alan Bowman scrambles for a 13-yard rushing touchdown. The Cowboys are up 14-7 to start the 2nd quarter.

Punt: OU punts to the OSU 26; Brennan Presley with the fair catch.

Bowman is utilizing Johnson again this week; 20-yard catch for a Cowboy first down.

Field Goal! Alex Hale makes a 36-yard field goal to make it a two-score game. 17-7 Cowboys with 9:42 left in the half.

OU touchdown: Gabriel to WR Drake Stoops for a 6-yard touchdown to make the score 17-14; 7:06 remaining.

OSU is unable to recover from a penalty that forced them to start the drive at the OSU 9-yard line. Hudson Kaak punts to the OU 37.

After a few big plays the OSU defense comes up with a timely third down stop. OU attempts a 51-yard field goal and misses. The Cowboys take over at their own 33.

Despite the momentum gained from the third down stop, the Cowboys can’t come up with anything and punt to the OU 30-yard line.

DEFENSE! Third-and-out for OU. Brennan Presley returns the punt to the OSU 25.

3rd Quarter

Kickoff: OU gets the ball to start the second half.

INTERCEPTION!!! The Cowboys get the ball back at their own 36.

Gordon II breaks loose for a 35-yard rush to put the Cowboys in scoring position early in the second half. Nothing comes from it, though, and the OU defense stops OSU on a 4th and 1 try. OU takes over on their own 16-yard line.

On a 3rd and 13, OSU can’t stop the Gabriel-Stoops connection. The next play, RB Tawee Walker runs past the defensive line to score. 21-17 Sooners.

BEAUTIFUL pass from Alan Bowman to Rashad Owens for a gain of 30. Despite the big play, the Cowboys come up short on 4th and 1. Turnover on downs on the OU 37.

HUGE stop for the OSU defense. OU went for it on 4th and 5 but failed to complete the pass. OSU has a chance to get back on top with 1:45 left in the third starting at their own 30-yard line.

FIRST DOWN! Brennan Presley with the catch for a gain of 12. Next, Rashad Owens makes a 31-yard catch to put the Cowboys in scoring position again. Going into the 4th quarter, OSU is at the OU 28-yard line and has to score here.

4th Quarter

Well, there’s a first time for everything. On a double pass play, Billy Bowman intercepts Ollie Gordon’s pass for a 39-yard return to the Oklahoma 44-yard line.

OU punts to the 3-yard line. Tough spot to start for the Cowboys.

Thanks to penalties on OU, the Cowboys move from the 8 to the 44-yard line.

The Bowman-Presley connection is heating up. Back-to-back completions for #80 to get the Cowboys right outside the end zone.

TOUCHDOWN OLLIE!!! A 1-yard rushing touchdown for the fan favorite to complete a 97-yard drive. OSU is up 24-21.

FUMBLE!!! The OSU defense forces and recovers a fumble on the OU 19-yard line. Now, they have a chance to score again. Alex Hale completes a 34-yard field goal and puts the Pokes ahead by 6. 27-21 OSU.

The OSU defense comes up big again and holds OU to a field goal on this drive. The Cowboys still lead by 3, it’s 27-24 with 4:48 left.

OSU gets stopped on 3rd down. The punt leads to a touchback with 1:53 left. OU starts on their own 20-yard line.

DYLAN SMITH!!! Smith breaks up a Dillon Gabriel pass intended for Drake Stoops to force an OU turnover on downs.

Final: 27-24 Oklahoma State
