Bedlam Hangover: UCF Better than Shown or Oklahoma State Worse, What Was It?

ORLANDO, Fla. – I’ve been sent some interesting material today about Bedlam hangovers, 42-point butt kickings, and some other mumbo jumbo fan-type analysis. I’m not putting down fans. Fans are great, but that is where you see a lot of score comparisons and mystery theories. We had long conversations on a four-hour flight coming home last night amongst the Oklahoma State Radio Network crew.

I hope the coaches and team watch the tape of the Cincinnati- Houston game and see what the Bearcats did, which is play smash mouth physical football on both offense and defense and rush the ball for over 200 yards and force three turnovers on defense!!!

Simply put, we aren't a Top 25 team in terms of quality. No ranked team gets beat 45-3 if they are worth a damn and show me any other ranked team in the country beat that bad by a -500 football team. Anybody?

OSU fans get the gut punch and kick to the nuts from their team due to that reality. From the penthouse to the outhouse in a span of one week! That is no fun and borderline psychotic for anyone coming back for more.

Wonder if our pay to play players and million dollar coaches would like the fans to quit giving from time to time because our care factor and effort just isn't there this week or month? The fans have a right to be pissed about the national embarrassment they watched Saturday and that is a fact imo.

Bryan Nardo really needs to figure this out because the book is out on how to burn this Cowboy defense. It's the secondary. Specifically, the safeties. Rucker does not belong in coverage because he's been burnt repeatedly. Daniels has underperformed all year. There's your problem area. And for God's sake, rush more than three guys to get some actual pressure on the QB! Guys are just sitting back there with all day to throw.

The injury to Lyrick Rawls was HUGE!!! He was starting to look like a Kolby Harvell-Peel, Tanner McAlister type at the safety position and though we have used a couple of different folks back there they just aren't the answer that Rawls was at that position!

Our safety position is thin, but not as much as our WR position! (What is happening there? Every year we are thin at WR!)

This was a perfect storm, along with players being slow to catch up on defense.

If a team hits vertical passes against our defense, (USA,ISU,UCF) we are completely scrwed since our secondary is soo young (Dylan smith, Mckinney, Cam,) But this game, even Korie was bad which put us really in a pickle. Our DEs are not good, they are not getting enough penetration, we cant expect a lot of sacks in 3-3-5, since their job is to get double teamed so the LBs can get pressure, but DEs are not doing that.

We have to hit the portal for good DEs, and TEs (Cassidy, Josiah, Ian are all leaving).

Offense was plain bad, made worse by our style of play. We are not made to play from behind by three scores. Our team is not that quick on offense.

The playbook is out. Hit us deep, go up two score, OSU will struggle and mostly lose. Houston might try to do same, will see how Nardo handles them.

or.... how about we get back to winning the TO battle, then all the silly comments fade away again

I have no idea what you think you saw the first two years of Knowles, but what I saw was ROUGH and had me thinking Knowles came in overconfident and was overwhelmed with B12 offensive firepower. Now, he's a smart guy and worked to figure it out, but his first year was absolutely NOT any better than Nardo's first year

Knowles' defenses didn't get torched by the forward pass multiple times and on a weekly basis

like Coach Nardo's teams do on a regular basis.

Like I said, I don't know what you think you saw during Knowles' first two seasons. We were regularly burned deep and it was obvious he was coming to the "air-raid-happy" Big 12 with an ACC paradigm. But you do you....

To use the context of a Bobby Knight quote after getting embarrassed in GIA by an Eddie Sutton team, " OSU came to Orlando to play a football game, UCF came out of their locker room to kick our ass."

We didn't handle being the hunted which any ranking makes your team. Houston will feel the same and so will BYU if we stay ranked.

We hope to always be the hunted because that means you're winning. If so, we better understand that as players and maintain a standard of play to handle great effort and focus from every opponent.

it's interesting to see how you defend what's not defendable.

you haven't actually provided anything except for "did too".

I'm not sure how that supports your position or supports your retort about defending the indefensible.

the normal course of action in debates is to provide countering information that supports your position.

Denial, is not actually a useful discussion tactic.

Cowboys gave up 592 yards Saturday. I'm not going to defend that performance.

Our DC appears to be in over his head.

I like Gundy, but he was not ready for Plumlee! Plumlee is UCF's Brandon Weeden. Just as Good, Just as Confident! Remember 2011, Weeden vs RG III? Weeden was ahead 49-3 at the end of the third quarter! Weeden said postgame, "I Thought We Were Playing, Make It Take It"!

Against UCF , OSU got "Plumlee'd"! The kid is is good! Our coaches were not ready. It was Plumlee's second game back after being out with injuries.

if the coaches weren't ready, they need a dock in pay.

^^^^^^^^^^^ This, it wasn't until the midpoint of the 2019 season after our homecoming loss to Baylor that he, Knowles, finally settled on Harrell-Peel, McAlister and Sterling as starting safeties! made the full conversion of Rodriguez to starting linebacker and moved Bernard-Converse from safety to corner to split time with Rodarius Williams that you saw that type of stingy defense that continued into 2020 and culminated in that elite 2021 unit!!!
