Oklahoma State Redeems Itself with 85-70 Win Against Sam Houston

STILLWATER, Okla.— The Oklahoma State Cowboys redeemed themselves with strong defensive plays and an improved free throw percentage.

With an 85-70 win against the Sam Houston State Bearkats, the Cowboys got off to a rough start. The Bearkats went on an 11-0 run early in the first half, but Bryce Thompson and the Cowboys didn’t stay down.

This is the Bryce Thompson that people are used to seeing. I don’t want to call it a redemption game for him, but he played a lot more like himself.

Thompson finished with 17 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists and led the team in scoring. He came off the bench against the Bearkats because he was late to shootaround, but that did not seem to impact his performance during the game.

Transfer guard Javon Small made his debut for the Cowboys today, and his presence was transformational to the outcome of the game. Small went 4-7 from three and finished with 16 points, proving to be a piece of the Cowboy offense that was missing against Abilene Christian.

The two guards proved to be a dynamic duo for Cowboy basketball. Moving forward their performances will be greatly influential to the team’s success.

Veteran guard John-Michael Wright also stepped up to play a big role. With 13 points and a steal, Wright’s presence on the court has been a constant reinforcement for the Cowboys last season and that remains true into this season so far.

Next up, the Cowboys will head to Brooklyn, New York, for the Legends Classic tournament on Nov. 16 and 17. After a much-needed win, the team has momentum and confidence to bring with them.
