Oklahoma State Invites to the Three College All-Star Games is Thin
STILLWATER – The college all-star game season begins tomorrow in Orlando, Fla. with the 2024 Hula Bowl. That’s right the Hula Bowl has relocated, it seems like permanently to the “sunshine state” as the game will be held again on the campus of UCF in their FBC Mortgage Stadium. Kickoff for the contest is at noon on Saturday, Jan. 13 and will be televised on the CBD Sports Network.
So far, this is the only game that includes and Oklahoma State Cowboys player. With all of the players eligible to return to Oklahoma State with a COVID year of eligibility there aren’t many seniors to chose from. Defensive end Anthony Goodlow, who transferred for his final year from Tulsa is playing in the contest. Goodlow is 6-5, 283-pounds and this season played a lot for the Cowboys and played well. He had 42 tackles, 18 unassisted, 7.0 tackles-for-loss, 3.0 sacks, and a quarterback hurry.
With a good performance in this game Goodlow could earn himself an invite for either of the other two games:
East-West Shrine Bowl Game on Thursday, Feb. 1, 7 p.m. at The Star in Frisco, Texas
or
Senior Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 3, 1 p.m. at Hancock-Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
There has been talk of other players making it to these games such as linebacker Xavier Benson or defensive end Nathan Latu. I think a teriffic candidate would bewide receiver Leon Johnson III or tight end Josiah Johnson. The problem is neither likely had enough numbers to get them on the list.
By the way a former Cowboy is in the Hula Bowl as quarterback Spencer Sanders drew an invite after serving as the back-up at Mississippi this season. Sanders racked up a ton of yards, both rushing and passing, at Oklahoma State as he started for most of three seasons. He was the MVP in two bowl wins in the 2020 Cheex-It Bowl win over Miami, Fla. and then again in the dramatic comeback win over Notre Dame in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl. Sanders had both the Ole Miss and the OSU stickers on his helmet in practice this week in Orlando for the game.
