Glad to See Josiah Johnson and Elijah Collins Getting an All-Star Shot
STILLWATER – I heard from Oklahoma State graduate tight end Josiah Johnson’s father and I’m glad I did. I really believe that Johnson (6-5, 242) has a real shot to play in the NFL if a team will bring him in and give him an opportunity to develop further, maybe on the practice squad. Johnson proved this season at Oklahoma State, his first full season as a tight end, that he could block and make plays required at that position. Josiah’s father, Sydney, informed me that Josiah and OSU graduate running back Elijah Collins (6-0, 218) will both play this Saturday in the Trillion Tropical Bowl in Daytona, Fla.
The game will kickoff at 11 a.m. (central) and will be played in Daytona’s Municipal Stadium. The game will not be televised, but you can purchase a streaming broadcast here.
The players in the game come from Division I FBS programs, like Johnson and Collins from Oklahoma State, linebacker Rich Miller and corner Kwinten Lassiter from Kansas, defensive end T.J. Franklin from Baylor, and kicker Graham Kell from TCU. There are players from Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan State and more. There are players from FCS programs, Ivy League schools, and Division II schools including a player from East Central in Oklahoma.
Johnson had 22 receptions this season, a high for the past five seasons for an OSU tight end of Cowboy back. He had 166 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Collins was hampered the middle and late season with a high ankle sprain and finished his final college season with 30 carries for 146-yards and two receptions for 19-yards. He had two rushing touchdowns.
Defensive end Anthony Goodlow played last Saturday in the Hula Bowl in Orlando, Fla. We have researched, but not found any statistics for the game.
The other two games that we know of are:
East-West Shrine Bowl Game on Thursday, Feb. 1, 7 p.m. at The Star in Frisco, Texas
Senior Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 3, 1 p.m. at Hancock-Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Ala.
