Oklahoma State Adds Yamil Talib to 2024 Class as a PWO (Updated with Quotes)
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is very tight in the 85 scholarship limit and also very tight in their overall limit of 130 players in the football program, so right now a preferred walk-on offer from Oklahoma State has more value to it than it has in some time. Richardson Berkner (Texas) linebacker and edge rusher Yamil Talib (6-2, 230) had the offer and on National Signing Day made the commitment to OSU as a PWO. Talib brings extra value as a PWO as his uncle is former Kansas All-American and NFL standout corner Aquib Talib.
In choosing Oklahoma State, Talib turned down scholarship offers from the likes of UAB, Texas State, UTRGV, and Mississippi Valley State.
“Man, Coach (Tim) Duffie and (head) Coach (Mike) Gundy have been talking to me and they talked me into coming there,” Talib told us this evening by phone before a banquet he was attending to be honored. “Coach Gundy has been there forever and he has been winning.”
Talib was the Defensive Player of the Year in Richardson, Texas and was first-team All-City. Berkner Rams made the playoffs and finished 6-5 and 6-2 in the district. Talib was the leading tackler for the Rams this past season with over 100 tackles and he has been a major player for the team the past three season.
“They have told me that I will play linebacker,” he added. “I’m really excited about being there and I know I can play at that level.”
Talib said he would major in Business at Oklahoma State. He is a teammate to one of Oklahoma State’s top 2025 targets in Berkner cornerback Kobi Foreman. That should help in recruiting Foreman to have one of his teammates there.
