TEMPE, Ariz. – Oklahoma State’s top-ranked women’s tennis team picked up its ninth ranked win of the season on Saturday, defeating No. 25 Arizona State, 4-0, in Tempe, Arizona.

The win improves OSU to 10-0 on the season, its best start since 1986, and is the first in program history as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. It also marked head coach Chris Young’s 250th win at OSU across 15 seasons.

The doubles played the closest of any match this season for the Cowgirls as all three courts went to a tiebreaker. Arizona State was the first to take a court, getting a win from Giulia Morlet and Sara Svetac over Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez on court two, 7-6 (7-3).

Oklahoma State would answer on court three as Safiya Carrington and Kristina Novak defeated Marianna Argyrokastriti and Emilija Tverijonaite, 7-6 (7-5).

With the doubles point on the line, No. 13 Anastasiya Komar and Ange Oby Kajuru fought off multiple match points to defeat Patricija Spaka and Chelsea Fontenel, 7-6 (9-7), in a thriller.

After winning the doubles point for the sixth-straight match, the Cowgirls entered singles with a 1-0 lead and would collect their final three points in quick fashion.

No. 46 Miyamoto was the first to turn in a win for OSU, beating Svetac, 6-4, 6-1, on court five. No. 5 Kajuru then defeated Fontenel, 7-5, 6-0, to put another point on the board for the Cowgirls.

No. 122 Carrington would provide the clincher for Oklahoma State on court four, besting No. 97 Tverijonaite, 6-3, 6-4.

In matches that went unfinished, No. 17 Komar trailed No. 77 Morlet, 5-7, 5-5, on court one. No. 54 Peyre was headed to a third set with Argyrokastr on court three, tied at 3-6, 6-1, while Novak led Rachel Hanford on court six, 6-4, 6-6.

Oklahoma State will return home next Saturday to take on Princeton looking to cap an undefeated non-conference schedule.
