Bedlam Beatdown: Oklahoma State Stays Undefeated With 34-9 Win Over OU

STILLWATER — It was a dominant performance for Oklahoma State from start to finish as they demolished Oklahoma, 34-9 in the 2024 edition of Bedlam in front of nearly 10,000 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena.

With the win, the Cowboys moved to 14-0 overall on season, 8-0 in Big 12 play and will face Iowa on Sunday, February 25 at 2 p.m. CT.

No. 10 Troy Spratley kicked things off with a bang for the Cowboys at 125 as he faced Conrad Hendrickson. Spratley recorded a takedown just under a minute into the match before he recorded a fall just over the one-minute mark to put the Cowboys on top, 6-0.

No. 2 Daton Fix was next for the Cowboys at 133 pounds against Gabe Vidlak. Fix recorded two quick takedowns in the first minute and a half of the match to go up 6-1. Fix allowed an escape following an out-of-bounds before another quick takedown to go up 9-2. Fix started the second period down and recorded a reversal in less than 10 seconds, gave up an escape and then a fourth takedown of the match to go up 14-3 with more than a minute left in the second.

Fix toyed with Vidlak in similar fashion until a quick takedown early in the third for a 20-5 tech fall victory, putting the Pokes up 11-0.

No. 8 Tagen Jamison recorded a vicious takedown in the first 10 seconds of the 141-pound match by slamming OU’s Carter Schmidt to the mat before recording a fall in just 57 seconds to put the Pokes on top 17-0.

"I can't even remember those first three matches they happened so fast,” head coach John Smith said. “It's a great way to start, getting 10 minutes into the dual and you're already three matches down. I thought we may get out of there in an hour, but credit their guys for fighting it out… The whistle blows and we're scoring. That's why we're winning."

No. 15 Jordan Williams came out at 149 against No. 21 Willie McDougald. Williams nearly recorded a takedown in the first period, but after a decent scramble between the two, Williams was caught on his hip to give up a takedown. Entering the third period, Williams, trailing 4-1, took the down position. Williams recorded an escape to get back within two just over a minute left in the match. However, McDougald was able to avoid a takedown late in the third to escape with a 4-2 win, making it 17-3 going into the 157.

No. 11 Teague Travis faced No. 27 Jared Hill in a battle of Oklahoma wrestlers at 157. Travis recorded the first points with an escape early in the second period. He then recoded a strong double leg takedown straight to Hill’s back for two near-fall points for two more points, going up 6-0 going into the third. A takedown with 34 seconds left and a minute of riding time put the match fully out of reach for a 11-1 major decision win and 21-3 lead.

No. 3 Izzak Olejnik was next as he took on No. 26 Cael Carlson at 165. A quick takedown put Olejnik up 3-0. He recorded a quick escape and then another takedown to go up 7-0, the Pokes’ 12th takedown of the dual. He’d continue on in that direction, including a minute of ride time for an 8-2 win and extending the Pokes lead up to 24-3.

No. 20 Brayden Thompson faced Tate Picklo at 174. They stayed tied up throughout the first period and entered the second 0-0. Thompson recorded an early escape to go up 1-0, with Thompson staying back a bit, biding his time and letting Picklo be the aggressor. He did, however, pick up a stall warning. Picklo began the third in the down position, with Thompson allowing an early escape, tying it up 1-1. Picklo was hit with a one-point technical violation, putting Thompson up 2-1 with just 43 seconds left. However, Thompson was hit with a stall penalty, tying it back up 2-2 and going into a two-minute overtime.

Thompson recorded a single leg and had a great chance at a takedown, but Picklo fought back and most of the OT was spent in a scramble before the refs called a takedown with less than 10 seconds left. However, neither wrestler had control and OSU threw a challenge brick. After a review, Picklo was awarded three points for the 5-2.

Up 24-6, No. 2 Dustin Plott took the mat against Giuseppe Hoose and rolled to an easy 19-4 tech fall with more than a minute left in the third, putting the Cowboys up 29-6.

No. 17 Luke Surber faced Carson Berry Hill at 197, with Surber recorded a takedown in the first minute. Surber jumped up 10-1 before the end of the first period following another takedown and four near-fall points. Surber recorded another takedown and another four near-fall points to go up 17-2 and the Cowboys on top 34-6 going into heavyweight.

No. 9 Konner Doucet faced No. 12 Josh Heindselman in the final match of the day. Doucet recorded an escape to start the second period to go up 1-0 over Heindselman and the rest of the second period was just like the first as they stayed tied up, but not a lot of action. Heindselman attempted an escape to start the third, but Doucet stayed on top lnearly ong enough to receive a minute of riding time, but Heindselman recorded a quick reversal to go up 2-1. Doucet nearly had an escape towards the end, but fell 2-1.
