Las Vegas and On-line Wagering Outlets Don't See Oklahoma State as a Football Favorite

STILLWATER – We alreadt covered this earlier in February when Fan Duel came out with their early over/under numbers for Big 12 teams and all of the major Power Five conferences in college football. Fan Duel had Oklahoma State at 7.5 for the over/under proposition wager. That was behind Kansas State (9.5), Utah (9.5), Kansas (8.5), Arizona (8.5), Texas Tech (8.5), and UCF (8.5). Now, we’ve had a chance to see some of the same material from Betonline.ag and they don’t see Oklahoma State any better.

School Betonline.ag Over/Under Win Total
Kansas State 9.5
Utah 9.5
Arizona 8.5
Kansas 8.5
UCF 8.5
Texas Tech 8.5
Iowa State 7.5
Oklahoma State 7.5
TCU 7.5
West Virginia 6.5
Baylor 5.5
Cincinnati 5.5
Colorado 5.5
Arizona State 4.5
BYU 4.5
Houston 4.5

Middle of the pack and with a returning Doak Walker Award winner and All-American in Ollie Gordon II, returning veteran quarterback in Alan Bowman, Brennan Presley, Rashod Owens, De’Zhaun Stribling and more at receiver on offense that is a surprising pick. The offensive line returns and is very experienced. On defense you return almost all your starting line-up and a number of explosive players. You have a defensive coordinator that will be in his second season and that should help.

I don’t get it. I don’t wager as my contract with Cowboys Radio Network and Learfield expressly forbids it. I would advise others to take advantage of some very generous odds, including these on making the CFP.

School Betonline.ag Odds to Make the CFP (money line)
Kansas State 3-1  (-200)
Utah

7-2  (-110)

Arizona 7-1  (+200)
Kansas 13-2  (+250)
Texas Tech 8-1  (+550)
UCF 10-1
Iowa State 12-1 (+700)
Oklahoma State 16-1  (+800)
TCU 16-1 (+800)
West Virginia 22-1
Baylor 45-1
Colorado 50-1 (+2000)
Cincinnati 66-1
Arizona State 100-1
Houston 100-1
BYU 125-1

Hey, they are just the opinion of a group of oddsmakers. Those are educated folks, but they get things wrong. Oklahoma State had a (regular season) over/under of 6.5 last season and finished at nine, which a lot of Oklahoma State fans profited from.

Better to be flying under the radar pre-season.

Meh, we haven't even been through a spring practice period yet, not to mention another round of portal moves after the Spring period is over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So do I understand this? If I could place a legal bet that pays off properly on Colorado for $20 to make the CFP, I get a $1,000 payoff if they pull it off? And what's the other 2,000 point deal on CU for example?

I'm guessing that the odds makers are looking at the schedules, and not at the personnel - everybody has good players.

The absence of OU and UT from the schedule automatically makes everybody near the top one or two games better. It is definitely different looking down the list and trying to factor wins/losses with so many new teams.

we'd better open humming on all cylinders with our schedule or their predictions could be true before October.

I think we would be better than Iowa State, but not sure if we have the talent to win more than 8 games compared to the talent of the teams ranked higher. Our play calling is weak. Our pass coverage is lacking. Our O-line is experienced, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are good enough to make the holes for the run game or to protect a mediocre passer for long enough. I think the odds makers got this right. I'm impressed with our receivers and RB, but after that, do we have enough talent? Not sure about Nardo, and I am sure about Dunn not being in the right coaching position. That's why I have a hard time seeing Cowboys finishing in top tier. A good season would be OSU finishing behind UA and Utah. No miracles until somehow the recruiting bribery money goes to a new level. My focus next season will not be on the standings, it will be enjoying what should be spectacular plays by the receivers, and a Heisman candidate RB. Hope to see Flores play some at least in pre-conference games. I think Rangel moves out during the next portal opening.

I get your point but Rangel did start against Kansas his freshman year, and in other games.....

The 18th-ranked Cowboys were blown out 37-16 by the Jayhawks. But those around the program left David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium on Saturday encouraged by Rangel in his first start. Rangel earned the start with veteran Spencer Sanders sidelined due to a lingering shoulder injury. Sanders was in uniform on the sideline, but he did not participate in warmups.

2022: Played in four games and started three times while maintaining a redshirt ... Finished the year with 711 passing yards and four touchdowns, completing 59 of 115 pass attempts with five interceptions ... Despite his limited games, his passing yardage total ranked as the third-most among Power Five true freshmen, the eighth-most among FBS true freshmen and the most among Big 12 true freshmen

and....

Cowboys Open 2023 With 27-13 Win Over Central Arkansas

Oklahoma State used three quarterbacks, with Garret Rangel starting, followed by Michigan transfer Alan Bowman and Gunnar Gundy, the son of the coach. Rangel had the most yards passing, completing 10 of 15 attempts for 118 yards, while Gundy completed 7 of 9 passes for 106 yards and rushed for 16 yards.
