STILLWATER – We’re just a few days away from the first installment of the 2020-21 Bedlam series for Oklahoma State basketball. Technically speaking, this should be the second game as the first was postponed until March 1. All that does is give us what should be one of the more exciting few days of Cowboy basketball this season.
The Pokes are currently coming off an impressive 74-69 overtime win over No. 17 Texas Tech in Stillwater on Monday. It was the second overtime win over a ranked Tech team, and the third overtime win over a ranked opponent this season for the Pokes.
There’s no question as to the energy levels of Bedlam being through the roof. The Cowboys are currently playing some great basketball having won four out of their last five games. As for the Sooners, they’re currently coming off one of their worst losses in recent memory.
So, how can the Cowboy use that going into Bedlam? Just carry over the energy, but don’t get too far ahead of themselves.
“[It means] a whole lot,” said Anderson. “I can’t even explain – like in the locker, when coach Mike walked in, there was Propel everywhere. It brings a lot of energy to the team and now that it’s Bedlam, it’s about to be even more energy and this game’s about to be even more important to us. So, we’ve just got to prepare starting with practice and we’re going to take it day-by-day.”
As for two-straight games against OU, this begins arguably the toughest stretch of the season for the Pokes. However, as every Cowboy fan knows, the Pokes won’t be overlooking OU to the difficulties of the remainder of the schedule. This series means a lot to this team, especially someone like Kalib Boone who grew up in Tulsa.
“These two [Bedlam] games mean a lot, honestly,” said Boone. “Being from Tulsa, an hour and a half away [from Norman], hour away from [Stillwater], it means a lot. Growing up, you love OU football, so your dream is to always go there – for some reason. But then you go to [Oklahoma State] and you just flip that switch. That game means a lot, more to me than anything and I know coach [Scott] Sutton, I love this, and I play this game for coach Sutton because I know how much he loves this rivalry.”
It that wasn’t enough for you, Mike Boynton said it perfectly a few weeks ago, “We don’t like them. It’s personal.”
