Oklahoma State Cowgirls Tennis Still No. 1 and Now 20-0 on the Season

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s top-ranked women’s tennis team continued its undefeated streak, beating West Virginia 7-0 Thursday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center. The win improves OSU to 20-0, marking the seventh time it has reached 20 wins in a season under head coach Chris Young and the 18th time in program history.

The Cowgirls started the day by claiming the doubles point. Anastasiya Komar and Safiya Carrington paired for the first time this season to defeat Momoko Nagato and Michaela Kucharova 6-2 on court one.

Following on court three, Cowgirls Kristina Novak and Lucia Peyre secured the point for OSU when they defeated Ting-Pei Chang and Tatiana Lipatova, 6-1.

Court two went unfinished with Ayumi Myamoto and Ange Oby Kajuru leading Maya Bordereau and Maja Dodik 5-2.

Moving into singles, No. 4 Kajuru got things started quick for the Cowgirls, winning in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-0, over Maya Bordereau on court two.

Court three was the next to finish as No. 65 Peyre took down Maja Dodik, 6-0, 6-0. No. 81 Miyamoto followed shortly after, clinching the Oklahoma State win with a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Ting-Pei Chang on court five.

Moving to court four, No. 77 Carrington battled it out to defeat Michaela Kucharova 6-2, 7-5. Next door on court six, Novak pulled ahead to defeat Tatiana Lipatova, 6-2, 7-5.

Finally, with the match coming down to a super-breaker, No. 10 Komar outlasted Love-Star Alexis 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) bringing the final score to 7-0.

Oklahoma State will look to continue to add to its historic start when it hosts Cincinnati on Saturday at 11 a.m.
