STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is one of more than a dozen schools to reach out to Minnesota transfer point guard, Elijah Hawkins.

Hawkins, who checks in at 5-11, 165 pounds, had a solid junior season this past year. He started 33 of 33 games for the Gophers, averaging 33 minutes per game. He was fifth on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game on nearly 40% shooting from the field. He also shot 36% from 3-point range and 78% from the free throw line.

Other than the near-10 points per game, the impressive stat for Hawkins is the 7.5 assists per game this past season. That number ranked him second in the nation, as well as first in the Big Ten in assists per game.

Hawkins, who’s originally out of Washington D.C. and DeMatha Catholic HS, played his first two seasons of college basketball at Howard, where he started 55 of 59 games and averaged a team-best 12.9 points, 6.0 assists, nearly two steals per game and shot 46.6% from 3-point range in 2022-23. In that season, Hawkins helped lead the Bisons to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 31 years.

Steve Lutz needs to fill nine scholarship spots before next season, with the point guard role towards the top of that list. There are some pretty big names on the list of schools to have reached out to Hawkins. But with the numbers Hawkins put out this past season, he should be a priority for the Pokes.
