Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Transfer Forward Marchelus Avery
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and Steve Lutz just landed a third commitment out of the transfer portal, yet another out of the Big 12. On Sunday evening, Marchelus Avery, a forward from UCF, took to social media to make the announcement official.
He should have one year of eligibility remaining.
Originally out of Richmond, VA, Avery spent his senior season this past year with UCF. The 6-7 forward spent the two seasons prior at New Mexico State, where he would’ve played with current Oklahoma State associate head coach, James Miller.
This past season, Avery played in 31 games for the Knights, averaging 7.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game on nearly 40% shooting from the field. He set career-highs with 23 assists, 22 steals and eight blocks.
Against the Cowboys this past season, Avery scored seven points and two rebounds in the first game and six points and five rebounds in the second game.
In the 2021-22 season with New Mexico State, Avery averaged 4.1 points and 2.5 rebounds on 45% shooting from the field. In his final season there, he averaged 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds on 47% shooting from the field.
Avery joins point guard Arturo Dean, who transferred from FIU, and forward Robert. Jennings II, who transferred from Texas Tech.
Lutz returns senior guard, Bryce Thompson, who officially announced his decision to return for his final season on Friday, as well as soon-to-be sophomores Jamyron Keller and Conner Dow.
