Oklahoma State Gets Pledge From Waco Midway Linebacker Donovan Jones
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is looking for a linebacker or two in the 2025 recruiting class and now they have one committed as Waco (Midway), Texas athletic second level defender Donovan Jones pledged to the Pokes.
He was one of two commitments that Oklahoma State reportedly received over the recruiting weekend which ran June 6-8. Jones made his decision know to the coaching staff and other recruits and families at head coach Mike Gundy’s house on Friday night. That was the night the staff and recruiting guests ate dinner and relaxed at the home of the head coach. It is always one of the most popular events during the recruiting weekend.
As for Jones, he is a 6-1, 202-pound athletic linebacker that will come in looking very similar to what Nickolas Martin came in. Add the “Body by Glass” to the athleticism that Jones naturally has and that is a strong addition to the defense. Last season for Midway’s playoff team, Jones had 71 total tackles, six tackles-for-loss, a sack, four passes defended, an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
Oklahoma State has cornerback Korie Black from Waco Midway, and the Pokes have been frequent visitors to that school and have recruited a number of athletes from there. OSU also has some in safety Landon Whisenton, a 2025 prospect from Midway that was at camp last Sunday. They are also interested and may soon offer his younger brother, 2027 running back Lathan Whisenton. Suffice to say, Midway has players.
Jones had offers to consider from the likes of Big 12 rivals Baylor, Houston, and TCU. He also had an offer among his double-digit considerations from South Florida.
Jones is the 14th commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for Oklahoma State and the fourth on the defensive side of the ball.
The main competition for Jones could be Baylor, Houston, TCU, and South Florida.
