STILLWATER – The last week of June the two young men that will portray the legendary Frank Eaton, the real lawman and gun fighter born in nearby Perkins, Okla. His image is the mascot for Oklahoma State University and the Cowboys known affectionately and honorably as “Pistol Pete.”

Heisman House
The real Heisman House is in Austin, Texas.

This summer Pistol Pete has been involved in the filming of two commercial campaigns, one for Raising Canes chicken fingers and the other for Nissan’’s Heisman House. Little did I know, but I learned from new Pistol Pete Brayden Smith that the Heisman House, the real house is located in Austin, Texas.

“That was a blast, one of my favorite events that I’ve ever done in college, one of my favorite memories,” exclaimed Smith. “We got there down in Austin, Cooper Hamilton (the other Pistol Pete for 2024-25) decided we were going to drive down there and make it a week long trip. We got down there and shot the ads with the fromer Heisman winners. It was great meeing guys like Tim Tebow, Mark Inngram, Desmond Howard, and the list just goes on and on.”

Smith and Hamilton as well as the other collegiate mascots there were with the Heisman winners throughout the day and stayed at the same hotel.

“We had conversations with them throughout the day and then seeing them again as the day wraps up at the hotel,” Smith continued. “That was a really neat experience as we were there all day for three days, doing various shots and whatever.”

Oklahoma State 1988 Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders was not there for the filming and will not be in the new commercials that come out. Sanders had a health scare shortly before that which he announced on social media. Smith said there was one Heisman winner that stood out with his connecting to the Pistol Petes and other mascots. No surprise it was the gregarious Tim Tebow.

Tim Tebow made friends.

“It was kind of a neat experience. He walked up to Cooper and I and introduced himself and said, “Hi, my name is Tim,’” said Smith who said, he told Tebow that he knew whohe was because he grew up watching him. “It was really neat and he had some trully heartfelt conversations with us. It was a neat experience.”

Lots of memories for sure, but Smith said he liked what he saw and thinks the final product will be well received. He insinuated that Pistol Pete got to be in a lot of scenes.

“The commercials when they come out will be pretty good. I liked them a lot,” concluded Smith.
