STILLWATER – Here’s a game for the old timers and the younger fans in the Oklahoma State fanbase. I remember because I was around one of the last ocassions when Oklahoma State and Arkansas teed it up in 1978 inside Lewis Field. For the young fanbase, here is a history lesson. The Cowboys and the Razorbacks have played football against each other 44 times. However, you have to be 44-years-old to have been around for the most recent meeting which was in 1980.

While not in the same category as Colorado on roster portal turnover, they have averaged 25 to 30 players leaving their program the last two years which is almost a third of a teams roster plus Pittman has been playing the Coaching carousel game the last couple of years which doesn't help with program stability!!! I always am thankful Mike Gundy is our head coach here at OSU!!!

Worrisome game to me. I started watching and listening to OSU football intensely in about '65. So absent a couple years I was living in Florida, this was just a huge game each year for 16 straight years to follow, watch or listen to and live through as a fan.

I recall being glued to my car's AM radio listening to OSU/Arkansas, as that was how you got the best signal to hear play by play unless you had an unusual home radio setup. Radio signals/stations were much more limited then. I recall visiting a good friend at OU, and we sat in his driveway near campus corner listening to a weak, scratchy radio broadcast of the entire game. You would miss a few play calls due to signal failure!

And of course it seemed to always be an away game about every year, so our chances were greatly reduced between having a rustoleum stadium and playing the 2nd best SWC team (behind Texas) in Arkansas every year. They won 12 of the last 16 games we played....which was my part of this series as a fan. So again, not quite as bad but very much like the series against the Sooners in those timeframes.

Word was back then, AD Broyles wasn't interested in ever coming to Stillwater IF OSU was ever competitive. And they, akin to OU, had all the money on their side of this game to buy Texas hs players, build nice facilities and pay OSU to be a whipping post! And OSU did it to keep our program financially afloat!

So it's great to see the series returning.....but again, that frustrating history makes it scary for at least this old timer. Plus those players and coaches for the Hogs know you lose this and their season hopes diminish considerably!
