Notebook: Cowboy Hoops Make the Cut For 2025 Big Man Mekhi Ragland, Offer Four-Star SF
STILLWATER – Steve Lutz and Co. are still looking to add their first big man of the 2025 class, and they just got one step closer with Mekhi Ragland.
With all the hubbub surrounding the start of fall camp for Cowboy football, this announcement fell through the cracks.
Ragland checks in at 6-10, 250 pounds, and is out of Sunrise Christian in Wichita, KS. He’s originally out of Lilburn, GA, where he played with Berkmar High School this past fall.
As you can see from his tweet, which includes the top five schools of Oklahoma State, DePaul, Georgia State, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
He currently has two official visit dates scheduled, Oklahoma State on Sept. 5, which should correlate with the home football game against Arkansas, and Mississippi State on Oct. 6.
While it appears Ragland has flown under the radar due to not only his low number of offers, but his lack of recruiting rankings, he certainly has a good skill set for a big man. He’s not afraid to pass the ball and can do so well, he’s incredibly difficult to move no matter where he is on the court, but especially inside, and he has good hands and a soft touch. As with most high school big men, Steve Lutz and his training staff will need to work on getting Ragland into college shape, but the frame is impressive as you literally can’t coach/teach size.
The Cowboys also offered a four-star small forward out of Markham, Ontario, Canada, by way of Overtime Elite, Efeosa Oliogu.
Oliogu checks in at 6-5, 220 pounds, and is listed as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 14 small forward in the class and the No. 9 overall prospect out of Florida.
He currently holds north of 20 offers, including Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Georgetown, Illinois, Oregon, TCU, Texas Tech and UCF among others.
Oliogu spent this past summer playing for Team Canada in the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, where he averaged an impressive 10.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists across six games, helping the Canadians win the bronze medal.
In those six games, he shot 46% from 3-point range and nearly 90% from the free throw line.
