STILLWATER – Oklahoma State had an official visitor this past weekend at the 39-31 double overtime win over Arkansas. Along with the visitors for the game including committed players in the 2025 class like offensive lineman Ryker Haff and Jaylen Beckley, receiver Matrail Lopez, receiver Kam Powell, crazy athlete Kobi Foreman, linebacker Donovan Jones, and edge defender Kyle Keya there was quarterback prospect Jett Niu. Niu is a 6-3, 190-pound quarterback that is currently guiding Lehi, Utah to a 3-0 season. They have beaten the likes of Davis (38-14), Desert Hills (35-0), and Bingham (38-23). They will play next on Friday at 1-3 Herriman.

Those other commitments were able to do some recruiting before, during, and after the game in talking with Niu.

Niu was supposed to visit Oklahoma State in June and cancelled after the Cowboys had a quarterback commitment Adam Schobel of Columbus, Texas. Schobel de-committed in July and switched to TCU. Niu had pledged to Appalachian State but wanted to see Oklahoma State. He did this weekend and then called Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy on Monday at 3 p.m. and told him he wanted to be a Cowboy.

“I mean over there you can really feel the culture,” Niu said of his official visit over the weekend that he took along with his parents and his younger brother and tight end Bryton Niu. “Coach Gundy and Coach Rattay, they do such a good job, and you can sense how much they care about their players and how they pour into them. The game day atmosphere was great. It is just a tremendous football culture, and I was impressed every step of the way on my visit.”

This season Niu, who is a dual threat quarterback that can also run has completed 47-of-85 passes for 701-yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Last season he completed 207-of-317 passing for 2,812-yards and 31 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

On his career he has completed 296-of-458 passing for 65 percent, 3859-yards and 44 touchdowns with 16 interceptions.

Besides Appalachian State, Niu was offered by Arizona, Marshall, Arkansas State, Old Dominion, Penn, Yale, Utah State, and Washington State.

On his Hudl page, he kind of has his own mission statement.

“My life revolves around Faith, Family, & Football,” Niu has on his Hudl page. “I am very goal oriented, passionate, driven, and a leader on and off the field. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get to the next level!”

His brother is a 6-5, 225-pound tight end that caught 12 passes for 91-yards and a touchdown on the varsity as a sophomore. He is starting this season as a junior. Bryton Niu in the class of 2026 has offers already from the likes of Cal, Oregon State, Utah State, and Colorado State in addition now to Oklahoma State.

Getting the quarterback in the 2025 class was a priority after losing Schobel. Niu was a guy they were interested in all along, so this is a strong development for the Cowboys.

Nice, on film he reminds me a little of John Rhys Plumlee, the former UCF QB who started against us when they trounced us 45-3 last November!!!
