The Firm of Heausler, Bindbeutel and Wilson Punctuate Oklahoma State Soccer Win at KU
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State tallied three first-half goals to propel it to a 3-0 win over Kansas Saturday night at Rock Chalk Park. With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 9-2-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Big 12, while KU is now 5-5-3 and 2-4-0 in the league.
Logan Heausler, Gracie Bindbeutel and Laudan Wilson netted goals for the Cowgirls, while the OSU defense held the Jayhawks to just five shots.
OSU's shutout marked its 11th of the year, which is tied for the fifth most in a season in program history. Grace Gordon notched a pair of saves and brought her season shutout total to eight, which is tied for the fourth most in a season in Cowgirl history. Additionally, she now has 14 clean sheets in her OSU career, good for the fifth most by any Cowgirl.
OSU jumped out to an early lead as Heausler netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season less than 15 minutes into the match.
After Wilson won the ball near midfield, she delivered the ball down the right side to Katelyn Hoppers, who sent a pass from just outside the box to Heausler. And the junior delivered, ripping a 15-yard shot to the far post.
Less than four minutes later, the Cowgirls doubled their lead. This time it was Alex Morris weaving her way through three defenders and dropping a pass to Bindbeutel in the middle of the box. After one touch to her right, Bindbeutel smashed a shot to the far post for her first goal of the season and a 2-0 OSU lead.
The Cowgirls added to their advantage again in the 32nd minute. After Bindbeutel was fouled in the box, Wilson stepped up and buried the ensuing penalty kick to put OSU up 3-0. The goal was Wilson's third of the season.
OSU took the three-goal lead into the break as the Cowgirls were also stout defensively, holding KU without a shot or a corner kick in the opening half.
The Cowgirls recorded just one shot in the final half but were never threatened as KU managed only five shots after intermission, with Gordon saving the only two on frame.
OSU returns to action next week with a pair of home matches at Neal Patterson Stadium as the Cowgirls take on Houston Thursday night before a Sunday afternoon contest against Cincinnati.
