It appears as if we’re getting closer to an official decision on the House v. NCAA settlement as Judge Claudia Wilken has preliminarily approved the settlement. The final approval hearing has been set for April 7, 2025.

The preliminary approval means updated timelines for the settlement. Notice of the campaign and claims period begins on Oct. 18, 2024, and allocation estimate will be available Dec. 17, 2024. The deadline for objections is now set for Jan. 31, 2025, and motion for final approval is now March 3, 2025.

You can see the full timeline in the tweet below.

if the settlement is officially approved, nearly $3 billion in back pay damages will have to be paid out to former college athletes over a 10-year period.

Then schools will have the choice to share roughly $21-22 million with their student-athletes each year, with a 4% increase in amount added onto each year.

There will also be roster limits added should the settlement be approved, with football having 105 roster spots, 34 for baseball, 28 for men’s and women’s soccer, 25 for softball, 18 for volleyball and 15 spots for both men’s and women’s basketball.
