STILLWATER – Oklahoma State redshirt freshman quarterback, Zane Flores, is officially out for the season following surgery to repair a lower leg injury, according to a report from Scott Wright of The Oklahoman.

Robert Allen reported both Thursday evening and on his radio show on Friday Flores did not make the trip out to Provo, UT, following several reports Flores was named the backup quarterback.

By having the surgery now, Flores is expected to be fully healthy and ready to compete for the starting job next spring. The leg issue was reportedly genetic and then spawned a stress fracture.

The Cowboys are set to face undefeated No. 13 BYU Friday evening, with the Pokes trying to pick up their first win of Big 12 play following an 0-3 start.

Quarterback Alan Bowman has struggled quite a bit recently, having been pulled in two of the last three games. So, redshirt sophomore quarterback Garret Rangel is expected to get the start against the Cougars. True freshman quarterback, Maealiuaki Smith, also made the trip out to Provo.
