Oklahoma State Injury Update for Baylor Game
WACO, Texas – The bad luck can be discussed and contemplated, but it won’t matter today when the game kicks off with Baylor at McLane Stadium at 2:30 p.m. Alan Bowman, who came in when starter Garret Rangel burst out running the football and injured his collarbone on a 53-yard run that set up an Oklahoma State touchdown that running back Ollie Gordon finished with three runs, is the starter again. The defense gets some players back, but quarterback is our first focus on the injury report.
Bowman can throw and showed he can run the football, which he will have to do the rest of the season. Bowman will need to be careful and hopefully stay healthy. Freshman Maealiuaki Smith will be the backup. With red-shirt freshman Zane Flores now out following a foot surgery, walkon freshman Garret Wilson is now the third-team quarterback.
Running back Ollie Gordon II had various bumps and bruises he was fighting off last week in Provo, Utah and practiced this week, so he is good to go.
Also out on offense is left tackle Dalton Cooper. Isaia Glass, the transfer from Arizona State that has started at right tackle during Jake Springfield’s injury moves over to left tackle. Springfield is back holding down the right tackle. I would expect to see No. 51 Austin Kawecki back in playing at both guard positions spelling starters Cole Birmingham (left) and Preston Wilson (right).
On defense, as mentioned, there are players returning to duty including leading tackler and rover safety Trey Rucker. The super senior is back and so is bandit safety Dylan Smith. Expect to see Kobe Hylton at the strike position as Cam Epps is out with a knee injury. Parker Robertson will back up across the board at all safeties. Expect to see talented freshman Landyn Cleveland get in some in the secondary as well.
Edge rusher/linebacker Collin Oliver and middle linebacker Nick Martin both continue to be out and aren’t expected back until later in November. Oliver has a foot injury and Martin a knee sprain.
