STILLWATER – After a great second half to his freshman season, safety David Kabongo announced on Saturday he’s returning for next season.

Kabongo, who was set to redshirt as he was a true freshman, played the second half of the 2024 season due to injuries ahead of him. The first game he played in was in the loss to West Virginia, where he recorded four total tackles, three of which were solo stops.

Kabongo against Baylor.

He had a solid performance against Arizona State, going head-to-head with Cam Skattebo.

The best performance of his young career came in the blowout loss to Colorado as he finished with a career-high seven total tackles, six of which were solo stops. He also had a tackle for loss.

The Cowboy coaching staff has a long road ahead of them in trying to put together a roster going into next season. But getting a guy like David Kabongo back is a big step in the right direction.

They have the same opportunity to build a roster that everyone else does. Look at Arizona State. Get busy and start with raising the bar on portal candidates and quality assistants. Looking forward to a renewed focus. Glad some young talent is staying.

May or may not be true, unless you know the NIL $'s available.

Great news, Kabango come on strong to finish the year. He had the second highest PFF grade for true freshman safeties in the Big 12. Second amongst true freshman safeties in tackles as well.
