Oklahoma State Plucks from Portal a Young Defensive End in Kyran Duhon
STILLWATER – The majority of the time you see schools picking up upperclassmen and older players out of the transfer portal, but the Cowboys found a defensive end that proved himself this season in Conference USA and he is from a very familiar recruiting territory. Maybe Kyran Duhon struck Oklahoma State as a little small coming out of Houston Summer Creek High School, but he played big at 6-2, 250 pounds this season at Texas-El Paso in earning first-team All-Freshman CUSA this fall.
Listed as a backup on the UTEP depth chart, Duhon played in all 12 games for the Miners and finished the season with 43 tackles and 21 unassisted stops. He had seven tackle-for-loss and seven sacks this season as well as two passes defended. He was part of a trio of young players in that Miners defense that flourished this season.
Duhon was All-District 23-6A with a breakout senior season for Humble Summer Creek High School. He had 77 total tackles with 45 unassisted tackles. He had a whopping 23.5 tackles-for-loss with eight sacks and 12 quarterback hurries. Summer Creek went all the way to the 6A-II State Championship Game with wins over Pasadena Memorial (48-0), League City Clear Creek (42-0), Fort Bend Hightower (35-31), Cibolo Steele (38-14), before losing in the championship to DeSoto (74-14).
A heckuva run for Duhon and his teammates. He has four years to play three seasons coming out of UTEP.
