Oklahoma State Adds Badly Needed Big Receiver with Shamar Rigby from Purdue
STILLWATER – This piece to the puzzle out of the transfer portal was huge. On the first day in the West End Zone, new offensive coordinator Doug Meacham was talking about needing to get some dudes. The loss of Rashod Owens to graduation and De’Zhaun Stribling to the portal (MIssissippi) left the Cowboys with few big receivers to compete and challenge at the outside X-and-Z positions. You can now welcome Shamar Rigby from Purdue. The 6-3, 190 pound receiver played as a true freshman for the Boliermakers and filled up the stat lines.
Aas a freshman, Rigby played in 11 games and had 11 receptions for 113-yards with an average of 10.3-yards per catch. He had one carry for five-yards and he was one-for-one passing for eight-yards. He also had a tackle as well.
A solid freshman season for the three-star receiver recruit out of Clearwater (Central Catholic), Fla. that had offers from South Florida, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas State, Louisville, Minnesota, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, and 12 others.
He was an All-State honorable mention honoree as a junior in high school when he had 42
receptions for 632-yards and eight touchdowns. His senior season he had 39 catches for 657-yards and he led Clearwater Central Catholic to back-to-back State Championships.
On the basketball court in high school, he averaged 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds a game. The 73rd best prospect as a senior in high school in Florida is the kind of dude Meacham was looking for in the transfer portal.
