Transfer Portal Analysis: The Busiest Week in Oklahoma State Football History

STILLWATER – Last year Oklahoma State used 46 official visits to bring in 27 new players, most freshmen in the 2024 recruiting class and some transfer portal players. Last week Cowboy football had 41 official visitors, most out of the transfer portal with a few junior college candidates. That’s right, 41 visits. Most overlapping each other with players on both sides of the football and at all positions except quarterback.

Is it me or the safety position looks like it needs more players? Especially more starters ?

I believe that we know have close to 10 players on scholarship at the safety position. We need DT's more than any other position. Five on scholarship is not enough to get through the season

RA: are any of the preferred walk-ons DT's?

I'm getting pretty nervous about next season... this is not setting up well to have a bowl eligible season... maybe bowl eligible, but that's about it.

In summary, on offense, we have no proven QB, no proven deep-thread WR, the slot may be okay, but losing Presley makes it hard to "improve", and TE is mostly all new aside from Ford, RB is by committee ATM, from what I can tell. The coaches schemes and alignments are all new. On the bright side, for me, the use of more TEs and using them to keep the opposing defense on the field is something I believe we will really benefit from.

Yeah, I get it, there is so much "promise" at many of those positions, and their "tape" looked great (against lesser competition). Let's just say I'm hoping this comes together quickly.

Defensively, I'm at a complete loss at determining what we may have next year. The DLine was supposed to be a strength last year, but they couldn't get any push, and from what I can tell, we've gone backwards on the DLine (at least I don't see anybody coming in that we be a huge improvement). LB was supposed to be a strength, then everybody got hurt, now they're all gone. Hopefully the guys coming in will at least be as good as the folks we have returning, or better. We lost our best Safety and CB, and pass coverage was not our strength to begin with.

In summary, it appears that we lost more in total that we added, so far. I'm an encouraged to move away from the 3-3 base defense (reportedly), that should help us with run defense, and blitzing (pressure).

I'm thrilled that we appear to be going in a different direction on offense and defense, but I'm going to need to see a whole lot from some new players during Spring and Fall drills to have me expecting more than 6 wins. I'll need to look at the schedule (and opponents personnel) a little more closely before I finalize predictions on next season.

I mean, if that group from last season could not even win a conference game, I'm anxious to see what this next completely new team can accomplish.

but yet here you are once again spewing criticism of others anyway, and shame on you for using your mother to hide it behind, bless your heart.

besides, everybody in the South knows that if you don't have anything nice to say about somebody, then you simply end your comment with "bless their heart".

Everything you said is true, but a year earlier basically the same team went 10-4 and second in the Big 12. So which was the anomaly, 2023 or 2024? My fear is that in the new NIL/portal world that if a team has several early losses there is no "comeback" because too many players will fold up the tent and save themselves for the portal.

We have 19 Safeties now. out of which around 7 are walk ons. That would mean 12 are scholarship. Out of which we are losing 6 (Starters and back ups)

Next year, we have Kabango, Cleveland, Parker Robertson, Epps, Ty and portal additions. Thats for 2-3 positions on the field. Mordecai McDaniel is the only portal I see now. Seems really thin.

Two thoughts....
1. It is impossible at this point to know how much the portal additions will help. Can they make a step up from lower level competition? Will they be mediocre or actually good P4 players? Maybe we will get a hint in the spring...maybe. Fingers crossed!
2. In the meantime....Happy Holidays to all! Enjoy the season and don't sweat the Pokes until at least January 2nd.

A hint as you pointed out, SPRING WORKOUTS, that will give the first indication how they stack up! Robert has access to all workout sessions so hopefully we get the straight scoop on how things look with the infusion of the portal transfers!

Robert (or anyone on here that knows), it seems that although they plan to appeal at least in the short term the NCAA is following the Pavia ruling and current Juco xfers will get at least 1 more year of eligibility. Anyone on the team/roster affected by that, particularly in the used up their eligibility group?

Kobe Hylton is one I'm aware of. And based upon his tweets, he seems to be considering it.

I am OK with no transfer QB if these three will stay put and keep working through 2025.

I can stand 6 or 7 wins next season if we see the effort and try.
